Facility Designed to Meet the Growing Demand for Hosting Services in the Kansai Region
TOKYO - April 9, 2001 - Cable & Wireless IDC, the Japanese subsidiary of global communications company Cable & Wireless (NYSE: CWP), today announced the opening of its second hosting centre in Suita, Osaka, Japan's second largest city. The new Osaka hosting centre has more than 20,000 square feet of hosting space and brings the company's total hosting space in Japan to approximately 75,000 sq. ft. With the opening of the new Osaka hosting centre, Cable & Wireless now operates four hosting centres in Japan, strengthening the company's position as leading provider of hosting services to businesses in Japan and around the world.
The opening of the Osaka hosting centre by Cable & Wireless IDC's is part of Cable & Wireless' global network of state-of-the-art hosting centres and builds on the company's commitment to meet the growing demand for outsourced managed hosting services. Cable & Wireless currently operates 22 data centres around the world. In June 2001 Cable & Wireless IDC plans open a new ISC (Internet Solution Centre) facility in Tokyo to meet the growing demand for outsourced managed hosting services in Asia region. With the opening of the new Tokyo ISC, Cable & Wireless IDC expects to have 340,000 square feet of hosting space available in Japan.
The new Osaka facility is directly connected to Cable & Wireless' high performance global IP network. The facility has been constructed to meet superior requirements in terms of fire and earthquake safety and meets the highest levels of environmental stability and security necessary for the maintenance of customers' web systems. In addition to those web hosting services presently provided by Cable & Wireless IDC the company will also be providing value added services such as web system management and failure recovery services in co-operation with alliance partners.
One of the earliest companies to offer hosting services in the Kansai region, Cable & Wireless IDC has been an important part of the Internet network in the Kansai region, first offering hosting services in 1997. NSPIXP-3, the stable Internet exchange in the Kansai area, is located in Cable & Wireless IDC's Osaka Data Centre 1. Together with Osaka Data Centre 2, Cable & Wireless IDC now provides customers in this region with one of the largest hosting centre capacities available.
