Dortmund, 10. April 2001. The mobile phone company E-Plus, GZS Gesellschaft
fr Zahlungssysteme mbH (Company for Payment Systems Ltd) with its joint
venture company Payitmobile, the technology company MATERNA and
international consultants Accenture intend to found a joint venture under
the catchy title "Payitmobile". The goal is to establish a user-friendly and
universally applicable mobile payment system. The members already possess
the mature technology needed and can guarantee the smooth introduction of
the system. A pilot phase will start in the middle of this year. Within the
next three to four years, 10 million customers from all the networks in
Germany should be able to make mobile payments for products and services via
Payitmobile.

Joint venture bundles know-how

The joint venture bundles the know-how of the partners: E-Plus as the third
largest mobile phone network operator in Germany contributes experience with
mobile and internet-based services, GZS brings its expertise in handling
cashless and card payments. The partnership with GZS also guarantees
convenient and simple payment by credit card, EC-card or direct debit. Here
GZS handles the complete collection procedure. Because Payitmobile wants to
cover all payment procedures in future, payments of any size can be
accepted. The MATERNA group is one of the leading independent software
houses in the information and communications technology sector in Germany.
It is experienced in integrating internet shops, in the development of
mobile value-added services as well as in the mass handling of mobile
transactions. Accenture takes on the management of the partnership in the
joint venture and supplies the knowledge for developing the marketing
strategy as well as scaling for the high number of users.

Payitmobile functions as an interface between the mobile phone network
operators and GZS. Together, these partners want to ease the launch of
m-commerce onto the market considerably.

Uniform system for mobile payment

The joined venture wants to win further partners in future in order to
establish Payitmobile as the leading payment system on the German market.
The initiative is open for other German mobile phone network operators,
service providers and banks. In addition, the new payment system is to be
made accessible all over Europe using a franchising concept. The joint
venture responds to the wishes of traders and mobile phone customers for a
uniform system.

Secure and easy payment by mobile phone

In future with Payitmobile, it will be possible to use a mobile phone to
make cashless payments alongside EC- and credit cards. Customers will be
able to use it to pay for their groceries in supermarkets, for example, or
to transfer money between bank accounts. The same applies to goods ordered
by telephone or in the internet and, in future, multimedia content called up
direct via mobile phones. Payitmobile is particularly attractive because it
is both user-friendly and secure. Customers identify themselves when turning
on their mobile phone by entering their mobile phone number. In addition to
this, they use a PIN code supplied by Payitmobile for each payment
transaction. This eliminates the possibility of misuse. Traders, in
particular, will profit from Payitmobile: the system is independent of
fixed-line connections and allows them to make all sorts of electronic
invoice checks.

The new payment system can be integrated for mobile phone providers within
two months and the customer will quickly be able to participate in making
mobile payments. As many traders are already co-operating with GZS and
E-Plus today, customers will be able to make mobile payments at many
accepted outlets using Payitmobile as soon as the service starts.

E-Plus, with 7.2 million customers (2/2001), is the third largest German
mobile phone operator. The company's high quality net is characterised by a
high speech quality and network capacity that have been recognised for their
excellence. In order to open the future market for mobile multimedia, E-Plus
is pursuing a consistent mobile data strategy. E-Plus users can call up
services using their mobile phones - via speech, SMS and WAP - or the
internet. This makes E-Plus the first mobile phone operator in Germany to
lift the barrier between the separate use of WAP and online portals. As the
owner of a UMTS licence, E-Plus will be able to offer its customers the
first services based on UMTS from 2002.

The GZS Gesellschaft fr Zahlungssysteme mbH (Company for Payments Systems) is the leading German processing service provider for the professional
handling of cashless and card payments. In addition, it offers innovative
services in the area of intelligent transaction processing. In issuing
processing, more than 2700 credit institutions trust GZS with processing
their credit cards. Over 400 000 traders work together with GZS to offer
their customers cashless payment facilities. More than 1000 staff take care
of nearly 7 million credit card owners with almost 350 million transactions
per year.
