Quantum|ATL certifies Quadratec's Time Navigator enterprise backup
application with the company's GbE-based P-series DLTtape libraries
Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) - based libraries and Time Navigator
first to enable seamless single backup solution of production servers and
London, 17th April 2001 - Quantum|ATL, a subsidiary of Quantum Corporation
(NYSE:DSS) and a leading supplier of intelligent DLTtape(tm) automation
products for networked computers, today announced Quadratec's Time Navigator
enterprise backup and restore solution is fully certified with Quantum|ATL's
native Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) P2000 and P3000 Series libraries. This
designation provides the companies' shared customers with the assurance of a
fully tested, seamlessly operable storage solution.
As the data explosion heightens, more organisations turn to NAS servers to
quickly and simply satisfy user demand for data storage and availability.
Unfortunately, this presents a serious backup/restore challenge, since these
filers are deployed on client networks and with mixed platforms.
Certification of Quadratec's Time Navigator with Quantum|ATL GbE P2000 and
P3000 Series libraries allows users to directly backup NAS Network Data
Management Protocol (NDMP) file servers, as well as other production
servers, over a network to any available tape drive within the library.
This highly scalable solution works with minimal backup host involvement,
allows library sharing, reduces management complexity and easily integrates
into existing Ethernet environments.
"Today, NAS appliances are the de facto building blocks for a wide range of
storage solutions. Unfortunately, organisations have found, that their
easy-to-deploy, easy-to-use file servers are not so easy to back up or
restore. Time Navigator enhances manageability and availability, simplifies
administration, and removes backup and restore operations from the server,
while retaining an open storage architecture," stated Jeff Corbett,
professional and technical services, Quantum|ATL. "The certification of
enterprise backup applications, such as Time Navigator, eliminates a
sizeable hurdle customers face when implementing a storage solution for NAS.
The result is an interoperable, highly available storage environment without
compatibility problems or extensive in-house testing normally required for
deployments of this kind."
With its combination of dynamic drive sharing capabilities and NDMP support,
Time Navigator alleviates server congestion associated with backup and
restore operations while augmenting data availability and storage system
performance. Additionally, Time Navigator and Quantum|ATL's GbE-ready
libraries provide support for heterogeneous operating systems, including
Windows NT/2000, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX and Linux.
"The certification of Time Navigator by Quantum|ATL demonstrates our mutual
commitment to providing open storage networking solutions that combine
best-of-breed hardware and software components. The combination of
Quantum|ATL GbE libraries and Time Navigator provides innovative
functionality in the growing IP storage networking space," said Manuel
Michel Tur, general manager for Quadratec UK.
Quadratec's Time Navigator is certified for use with Quantum|ATL's native
GbE P2000 and P3000 Series libraries running on Windows NT/2000, UNIX and
Linux platforms. For more information on Quantum|ATL's certification
programme, please e-mail email@example.com.
