Former CEO of Lotus Underscores Importance of Leadership in
Platform-Independent Knowledge Technology Solutions

CAMBRIDGE, MA, USA, 17 April 2001 — IT FACTORY, Inc., the leading supplier of knowledge technology solutions, today announced the appointment of Jeff Papows, former president and CEO of Lotus Development Corp., to the position of Chairman of the Board for IT FACTORY. Mr. Papows has been on the IT FACTORY Board of Directors since July 2000, and has brought crucial leadership and experience in the collaborative technology industry that have proven invaluable in shaping the company’s strategic direction over the past nine months.

His appointment to Chairman of the Board corresponds with a pivotal juncture for IT FACTORY as the company continues its rapid growth, both organically and through several recent acquisitions. The company is also moving beyond its roots in the Notes/Domino market, building an unrivaled leadership position in cross-platform knowledge technology solutions. {See separate release today: “IT FACTORY to Acquire Microsoft Development Firm ECMS”.}

“Jeff has been an emphatic driving force behind our acquisitions both in and outside the Domino space,” said Lars Johansen, president and CEO of the Cambridge-based IT FACTORY. “In a growing number of organizations, Lotus and Microsoft collaborative technologies exist side-by-side, and customers need solutions that span both environments. From the start, Jeff has emphasized that to be the leader in knowledge technology solutions, IT FACTORY must provide ‘platform-independent’ solutions. I am extremely pleased to have the benefit of his experience, vision and insight as he takes the lead position on our Board of Directors.”

“I am extremely pleased to take the lead in driving IT FACTORY’s strategic direction, and to see the company put some real meat on the bones in its cross-platform strategy with its acquisition of ECMS,” said Jeff Papows. “It’s time for IT FACTORY to take its success and value in the Notes/Domino market and extend it to the Microsoft collaborative platform as well. As Lotus and Microsoft continue to lead the collaborative platform market, customers need real solutions that don’t revolve around any single vendor. IT FACTORY is uniquely positioned to insulate customers from this ‘battle of the titans’ and deliver solutions that leverage the best of both worlds.”

During his more than seven years with Lotus and IBM, Mr. Papows successfully drove the evolution of Lotus Notes to its current status as the world’s leading collaborative platform. He is widely viewed as the key force that orchestrated the successful integration of Lotus into IBM. Today, Lotus has more than 8000 employees and more than 70 million users worldwide.

Mr. Papows was named to Upside Magazine’s Elite 100, a listing of the 100 most influential executives shaping technology while at Lotus. He is the author of Enterprise.Com: Market Leadership in the Information Age (Perseus Books, 1998), an authoritative book on the effects and global promise of the Internet in large companies, which has now been published and reprinted in seven different languages. Mr. Papows has been a keynote speaker at Comdex, Comdex Japan, and Comdex Mexico, and a regular guest on television news outlets such as CNN, CNBC, and FOX News.
