GE Information Services has today announced the launch of
Europe's first commercially available electronic-commerce
outsourcing service. The offering, which will be provided by
GE's Electronic Commerce Service Centre (ECSC), will allow
companies to grow their businesses cost-effectively, without
needing to worry about the reliability of their IT systems,
the availability of networking expertise, or the costs
associated with upgrading and retraining. Users will also be
able to build their own supply chain rapidly from one
centralised source, without a large investment in Electronic
Data Interchange (EDI) software and skills.

GE's ECSC provides a complete end-to-end software and
services support function for clients' evolving
electronic-commerce needs, and a seamless interface to GE's
global trading community of over 40,000 partners. Clients
will also gain access to an ‘around-the-clock' UK helpdesk
available 365 days a year, as part of GE's global customer
support organisation. One of the ECSC's first clients is
Eurocontrol, responsible for air traffic safety across 25
European member states.

The Electronic Commerce Service Centre offers an extensive
repertoire of business solutions which include: business
consultancy; project management; map development and
maintenance, trading partner implementation translation; and
document routing. It also incorporates a managed EDI
service, enabling companies to exchange business documents
with their trading partners, independent of local data
standards and a high level of data integrity and system
security.

"GE's ECSC is a ‘one-stop-shop' for today's
electronic-commerce needs," said Andy Robson, director of
corporate affairs, GE Information Services. "Those using
GE's ECSC are free to concentrate on what they do best -
formulating core business strategies. For the first time,
companies can form business partnerships across all market
sectors without wasting human resources. ECSC will enable
businesses to enhance their existing supply chains and
cost-efficiently reap the benefits of electronic-commerce
today."
