Includes plug-and-play IEEE 1394 card, MGI VideoWave 4 software and DV cable for easy video capture, editing and sharing

24 April 2001: MGI Software, a leader in visual media software products and infrastructure, today announced the release of MGI VideoWave 4 DV Suite, an easy-to-use hardware and software solution that provides everything a budding movie-maker needs to connect their DV camcorder to a PC, capture footage, edit, produce and share their videos. MGI VideoWave 4 DV Suite is available from Jessops, Dixons, PC World and leading software retailers from May 2001 for an SRP of GBP 99.99 including VAT.

MGI VideoWave 4 DV Suite is compatible with all DV and Digital8 camcorders that have an IEEE1394 (or FireWire / iLink) connection, and includes a high quality OHCI compliant plug-and-play PCI card with 3 ports at 400 Mbits/s, as well as a convenient DV cable for connection between PC and camcorder.

Stephen Mold, MGI’s managing director Europe, said, “Many new camcorder owners are looking for a fast and easy way to get up and running with video editing on their PC, without the hassle of searching for a compatible capture card and all the connections and cables to go with it. MGI VideoWave DV Suite provides hardware and award-winning software in a powerful all-in-one kit that’s simple to install, fun to use and doesn’t break the bank.”

Once the user has captured the video footage onto their PC, that’s when the fun really starts! MGI’s VideoWave 4 software provides a host of powerful editing features, presented by an incredibly slick and easy-to-navigate interface. Within minutes, the user can get to work on editing, mixing, adding special effects, and inserting titles and audio to their movie.

VideoWave 4 also offers advanced functionality such as automatic scene detection, smooth fast and slow-motion video, a dedicated web publishing function with support for RealNetworks and Windows Media streaming formats, and two complete CDs of media content and templates for users to include in their own projects.

Video streaming for the Web

In recognition of the growing popularity of video on the Internet, MGI VideoWave 4 allows users to create movies in the most popular web video formats. A single-click ‘Publish-to-Web’ feature automatically posts the clip to a portal community, with 10MB of free web space being provided for registered users to share their videos with family, friends and colleagues. This is particularly useful where a user’s own ISP only provides a limited amount of web space – they can simply include a link from their web page to the MGI hosting site without sacrificing their any of their existing space.

Scene Detection for easy video management

‘Scene Detection’ scans each video clip to automatically find scene changes – based on adjustments in lighting in the footage – saving each scene as a separate video clip for easier editing. Each scene can then be renamed if required. A manual setting is also provided, which eases the often tedious process of rewinding and fast-forwarding through long scenes to split them into smaller, more manageable clips.

Slow and fast motion

VideoWave 4’s unique ‘TimeWarp’ function produces incredibly smooth fast or slow-motion video effects, for a highly professional look. Based on DynaPel’s patented PelKinetics technology, the program mathematically calculates additional frames and fills in the gaps between frames, or converts videos from one frame rate to another.
