Nationwide is raising its online profile in the run-up to the fourth anniversary of internet banking in the UK with two new advertising deals.

Nationwide, which launched the UK's first retail internet banking service in May 1997, is expanding its presence on over the next 12 months as part of an integrated media deal with the web portal.

The deal represents a six-figure investment by Nationwide, bringing together a range of media, including keyword banners and buttons, sponsorships, SMS alerts, and future WAP activity.

It has also entered into a six-figure deal with search engine Ask Jeeves UK – in total Nationwide expects to generate over 100 million advertising impressions from these deals over the next 12 months.

Steve Clode, Nationwide marketing director, said: "In the past few years, we have gained much experience in internet advertising and have a clear view of the most cost-effective marketing activities. Working with Outrider, our internet media planning and buying agency, we have secured these deals on very favourable terms. They underline our commitment to building on our online success in the last four years.

"Overall these deals give Nationwide well targeted exposure on major sites regularly used by just under half of all internet users in the UK."

David Stubley, managing director at Outrider, said: “Recent MMXi and NetValue figures position Nationwide in the top five UK financial brands on the internet. Outrider have acted as Nationwide’s digital marketing agency for the past two years and developed an integrated programme to build the online brand.”
