IBM today introduced a new wireless keyboard and mouse as well as faster
NetVista X40 series all-in-one PCs -- all of which can transform a desk
or office into a more user-friendly computing environment while
increasing overall productivity.
The new Rapid Access Wireless Keyboard and ScrollPoint Wireless Mouse
utilise advanced radio frequency (RF) technology, allowing for a
completely cordless, clean-desk environment. Additionally, the
full-function wireless keyboard provides more features at a smaller size
-- up to two inches more narrow -- than competitive keyboards. The
NetVista X40 series features a sleek all-in-one design that takes up 75%
less space than a traditional PC. The new NetVista X40 systems are the
only compact desktop computers currently on the market with
microprocessor speeds up to 1GHz(1).
"Products that cater to a more user-friendly workspace are a growing
trend in the PC industry," said Roger Kay, an analyst with IDC. "As PCs
continue to be considered more as commodities over time, special
features such as wireless peripherals and stylish, compact designs are
becoming increasingly important."
Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Kit
The kit - consisting of a keyboard, mouse and receiver -- comes in a
sleek, black design and features a number of stand-out productivity
* 17 Rapid Access keyboard buttons that can be used to quickly launch
frequently-used applications and to perform commonly-repeated tasks for
* 12 separate RF channels to eliminate potential interference with other
* a USB connection allowing for rapid plug and play;
* a saddle-shaped cap on the ScrollPoint mouse to improve productivity
which supports horizontal and vertical scrolling plus the ability to
select 360 degree scrolling.
Available for sale immediately on IBM's website and shipping later this
month, the kit will come as an optional upgrade designed for use with
both IBM NetVista desktops and IBM ThinkPad notebooks as well as
hundreds of other industry-standard PCs.
New NetVista X40 and X40i All-in-One PCs
IBM today also announced five new models in its award-winning line-up of
NetVista X40 all-in-one PCs, with the high-end NetVista X40i featuring
the new wireless keyboard and mouse. In addition to higher processing
power speeds of up to 1GHz, other enhancements include:
* larger hard drives, up to 40 GB(superscript: (2)) in size, for greater
* parallel ports and support for Microsoft Windows NT now available in
custom models for commercial/business customers.
The combination of the wireless keyboard and mouse with the NetVista X40
line-up is a natural fit, given the all-in-one system's novel,
clutter-free design. With a bright, spacious, razor-sharp 15" TFT
flat-panel display as its centrepiece, the only prominently visible
parts of the X40 are the display, keyboard and mouse. Everything else,
from the hard drive to the speakers, is tucked away behind the display.
To save even more space, with the push of a button, a tray lowers from
the display to reveal the disk drives.
Additionally, IBM offers a radial arm option that can suspend the entire
NetVista X40 unit above the work area, returning desktop space to the
user. Designed with flexibility in mind, the radial arm moves freely,
allowing for a wide range of positions with the computer suspended. If
combined with both the radial arm and the new wireless keyboard and
mouse kit, the NetVista X40 becomes the ultimate solution for users
seeking not only full desktop computing power, but also a flexible,
space-saving and stylish computing environment.
