.... 7000 users to benefit from improved electronic commerce
capability ...

GE Information Services (GE) today announced an initiative,
branded Tradanet Extra, that will enable trading partner
information critical to the supply chain to be distributed
efficiently throughout GE's Tradanet EDI community.

The initiative - a community extranet - is thought to be the
first of its kind in Europe. Tradanet Extra will
specifically complement GE's existing EDI linkages, with
community-wide email and various community-specific
applications that will provide powerful support to the
electronic commerce process throughout the supply chain.

Tradanet Extra is being developed in close association with
GE's User Group (GUA) and will initially be offered free of
charge to existing Tradanet subscribers. The initiative will
enhance mission-critical supply chain environments through
five main areas:

Secure extranet mail capability - sensitive supply chain
information can be sent to all trading partners safe in the
knowledge that it is protected by the GE firewall;

Trading community web site - supply chain information, such
as supplier manuals, can be made availabe to trading
partners, eradicating the need for vast amounts of paper
being sent up and down the supply chain;

Enhanced business applications - provides access to
applications pertinent to the Tradanet community - for
example, transport consolidation applications which will
allow partners to share goods delivery resources for
improved supply chain management and environmental
efficiency;

Discount options - providing a mutually beneficial trading
platform for GE community partners;

Help and support - a reliable, secure information service to
and from GE Information Services for product and services
information and support.

"Successful electronic commerce is based on the provision of
reliable, secure and cost-effective communication to
integrate all business processes throughout the supply
chain," said David Hughes, chairman of GUA. "Tradanet Extra
will bring even more benefit to GUA members and the Tradanet
community as a whole."

A GE Tradanet Extra pilot project will be launched in
Quarter One 1998. The pilot is expected to involve 150 users
over a period of three months.
