2nd May, 2001 - ipsaris, the high capacity optical network business,
today announced the lighting of the first section of its new high speed
optical network. ipsaris will initially provide Managed Bandwidth
Services (MBS) between London and Manchester. Targeted at providing high
bandwidth connectivity to businesses in the UK, ipsaris is building a
highly extensive, high capacity network that will reach over 40 cities
via 350,000 fibre kilometres of high density optical fibre, held within
3,500 kilometres of ducting. The full ipsaris network will be lit
during the last quarter of 2001.
The ipsaris network is being built with SDH (Synchronous Digital
Hierarchy) and DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) technology that
will initially deliver 2.5Gb/s between the major cities of the UK and
will deliver up to 10Gb/s by early 2002.
ipsaris Managed Bandwidth Services will offer scalable bandwidth from
PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) connectivity at E1 through to SDH
and DWDM connectivity at 10Gbit. In addition, ipsaris' Managed
Bandwidth Services offer high resilience based upon substantial
investment in a state-of-the-art service Management centre that is
designed to deliver and manage a fully protected SDH backbone and some
of the most aggressive Service Level Agreements in the industry.
We're creating a world-class, UK network with the scalability, quality
of service and reliability demanded by today's high bandwidth users,"
said Mike Robinson, VP Marketing, ipsaris. "Our aggressive programme for
lighting the ipsaris network means that our customers will soon be able
to enjoy the same high levels of services nationwide as those taking
advantage of the London to Manchester route. To launch our services in
this market we are offering customers a three-month trial offer of our
Managed Bandwidth Services* on the London to Manchester route,
underlining our commitment to this market. "
"Today's data-hungry applications demand high network resilience,"
continued Robinson. "Today's high bandwidth users are focused on
increasing the quality and reliability of the service they provide to
end users. With the ipsaris solution, customers can easily grow the
bandwidth they have available whilst maximising their network
efficiency, enabling them to carry greater volumes of data, more
securely and reliably," Robinson concluded.
Originally founded in 1993, ipsaris is a high capacity optical network
business and subsidiary of Marconi plc. As a network provider for the
UK, the company will offer extensive coverage to geographical areas with
a high population of communications nodes. The ipsaris network will
comprise of 350,000 kilometres of high density optical fibre, held
within 3,500 kilometres of ducting by the end of 2001, offering highly
extensive network coverage throughout the UK. ipsaris provides
solutions to carriers, ISPs, ASPs, telecommunications operators and SMEs
