Vendors of Linux-Based Thin Clients Start To Show Devices with Embedded Support for Tarantella at NetWorld+Interop, Las Vegas
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. –May 8 2001– Tarantella, Inc., (Nasdaq: SCOC transitioning to TTLA), has launched a native code component designed for embedding in Linux based Internet appliances and network devices.
"Not all terminal and thin client devices are capable of executing browsers and Java Virtual Machines," said Andrew Bovingdon, Director of Product Marketing for Tarantella. "Our new small native client component gives these extremely cost effective devices the ability to easily access diverse, server based systems and applications through Tarantella-enhanced IT infrastructures".
The client code is remarkably simple to use and can also be of use in client environments where browser usage in not permitted or desired. Terminal vendors can gain access to the code for embedding into their device through free membership in the Tarantella Technology Alliance Group (TAG), which was also launched today.
A version of the embedded client for the Nokia 9210 communicator was announced and demonstrated at CeBIT and will be available later this year when Nokia begins shipping the device.
Tarantella native client for Linux is available as part of the standard product for general use in non-browser environments, or through the TAG initiative for embedding into terminal devices.
