Tarantella Inc., Announces and Ships Version 3.1 of Award-Winning
Tarantella Enterprise 3 Software

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.–May 8, 2001 –Tarantella, Inc., (Nasdaq: SCOC transitioning to TTLA), has announced Tarantella Enterprise 3, version 3.1. An enhancement to its award-winning application and data centralisation solution, version 3.1 is available today for web-shipping and evaluation, and is available immediately via the Internet through a free 30-day trial offering.

In line with the company’s vision for providing a leading edge product that enables large IT departments to regain control of their environment and architecture, the new and enhanced features of Tarantella Enterprise 3, version 3.1 are in direct response to customer needs.

"CIOs and CTOs have been telling us how difficult and costly it is to maintain large networks of PCs, multiple application platforms and other software," said Doug Michels, President and CEO of Tarantella, Inc. "Tarantella Enterprise 3, version 3.1 is an example of how well we have listened."

The new version features firewall traversal and browser proxy. These provide enhanced global connectivity from remote offices as well as customer and partner sites, while lowering or removing administrative overhead.

For users of Microsoft Windows based applications, version 3.1 also adds enhanced drive mapping capabilities, allowing access to local file systems from remote Microsoft Windows applications. By providing seamless access to files and an extensive range of central controls—from access permissions to drive labelling—Tarantella Enterprise 3 helps reduce the complexity of IT systems, resulting in savings of time and money.

In addition, Microsoft Windows users can now take advantage of an enhanced RDP printing support, which utilises standard RDP based printing mechanisms to extend the seamless, non-intrusive nature of the solution.

Tarantella Enterprise 3 software is designed to support up to 1,000 users per server. Up to 50 servers can be combined into a single array to intelligently balance the server load across geographically dispersed networks, providing improved scalability and application performance. As with the previous version, version 3.1 integrates with all UNIX, IBM AS/400, mainframe, Linux, Windows and web-based application platforms.

"By following a clear and well defined strategy, aimed to simplify and streamline complex IT systems, Tarantella has been able to produce a product that is very compelling to all large organisations, especially in these financial times," said Andy Bovingdon, director of product marketing for Tarantella. "This latest version provides essential features for Application Service Providers (ASP) and companies with more complex remote access requirements."

Tarantella will be demonstrating Enterprise 3, version 3.1 at the Tarantella booth (#5718) at Networld+Interop 2001, to be held in the Las Vegas Convention Centre from May 8-10, 2001.
