Topaz* recognised as a primary mechanism for Maintaining Critical Site Performance for their On Line Banking Customers

CAMBERLEY, SURREY - MAY 9th 2001 - Mercury Interactive Corporation (NASDAQ: MERQ), the leading provider of enterprise testing and performance management solutions, today announced the Halifax plc, a leading banking institution, has installed its industry leading Web performance management solution, Topaz, into its Copley (Halifax) and Pudsey (Leeds) Data Centres. The deployment of the automated tool Topaz will ensure Halifax can provide its customers with the high level of service expected.

Topaz gives customers the ability to monitor, identify and diagnose e-business application performance problems. It is the only tool that measures the end-user experience 24 x 7 and correlates performance issues to their root cause in the Web infrastructure.

Mercury Interactive's Topaz has given Halifax the ability to proactively monitor its site in real-time and alert the operations groups to any potential performance problems before their end-users experience them. Topaz verifies that users receive correct content and measures response times to determine if specific transactions or locations are exceeding performance thresholds.

Commenting on the success of the Topaz implementation, Stephen Woodhouse, Senior Infrastructure Analyst within Capacity and Performance Services, Halifax plc, said: "The deployment of Topaz within the Halifax data centres has been a great success. The acceptance of the Mercury Interactive solution within the Halifax data centres and the extended use of the available functionality is a good indicator of this.

"The solution is now recognised throughout the organisation as one of the primary mechanisms for monitoring the availability and performance of the E-Commerce and E-Business services we offer."

Halifax now views Topaz as a pivotal operational tool to assist in both real-time monitoring and future capacity planning. Mercury Interactive provided consultancy in both the deployment of the software and the development of the initial Topaz scripts for this project. Halifax received training from Mercury Interactive and has a standard maintenance and support agreement.

David Harrison, UK Managing Director and VP Corporate, Mercury Interactive said: "The Halifax was already a Mercury Interactive customer for testing tools - the adoption of Topaz clearly reinforces their commitment to deliver their customers a positive user experience and high quality on-line banking services."
