KeyMS, the high-end Internet specialists and technical project managers responsible for writing the tote, core betting and accounting systems for the 24 hour greyhound racing site Gobarkingmad.com today announced the selection of SGI to provide the application and database server storage.
The Gobarkingmad site, from Gaming Internet plc, to be launched in June, will be the first live greyhound racing site providing 24/7 coverage from 50 tracks around the world and will broadcast simultaneously on the Internet and Interactive Television. It is one of the first web sites in the world with this simultaneous broadcast functionality.
Andrew Chalmers, KeyMS CEO explains, "We looked at most major hardware manufacturers before recommending SGI. Our software is written in Java and XML, which could run on almost any platform. However, intensive testing showed that Linux on an SGI platform was the best combination. The greyhound racing environment is such that we expect most of the transactional hits to take place minutes before a race begins. It is vital that the chosen system can handle and track up to 250 bets per second, each bet involving three write transactions and a verification process. We were particularly impressed with the work that SGI was doing in this area."
He continues, "SGI was willing to pull out all the stops to achieve our very tight delivery schedules. It also provided extensive assistance in ensuring that the software would scale properly on its equipment. It was streets ahead of competitors in terms of services levels and value-add."
"We are delighted KeyMS recommended SGI to provide the core solution for the Gobarkingmad site," comments Stuart Lanyon, UK Sales Director at SGI. "Working closely with our channel partners, OCF, we provided a highly innovative offering, comprising high-availability storage and high-speed computing. This will enable the site to handle its target of 250 bets per second, without sacrificing system scalability, a pre-requisite other vendors could not meet."
