Dublin, 14 May 2001 – Eontec, the global provider of multi-channel banking software solutions, has successfully completed the world’s first scalability and performance testing program for end-to-end Enterprise JavaBean™ (EJB™) - based banking solutions. The testing, which took place at IBM’s US-based Solution Partnership Centre (SPC), one of the company’s premier porting and testing facilities, saw BankFrame exceed performance objectives. A massive linear scalability of 1400 banking processes per second for a sample of 1000 concurrently active users was achieved, exceeding the requirements of large banks running a number of service delivery channels through a single data centre.
This test scenario measured end-to-end banking processes rather than pure technical benchmarks. It reflected 1000 concurrent active users simulating the operating environment for a bank with a customer base of 10 million. The scalability and performance test was representative of a complete customer life-cycle, taking a sample of the most commonly used banking processes across all service delivery channels including branch, contact centre and internet.
The results illustrate BankFrame’s ability to support large numbers of concurrent users on an affordable server platform with components capable of scaling both horizontally (by adding more servers) and vertically (moving to a larger platform).
“As the internet becomes a primary mechanism for conducting business, the importance of scalability and performance of banking systems is widely recognised as it enables potential users to evaluate a range of hardware options and allows for an estimate of performance versus costs,” comments John Randles, chief technology officer, Eontec.
“These results illustrate the robust and scalable nature of the BankFrame application platform and reinforces the benefits of EJB technology to support banking operations enterprise-wide.”
The performance test was carried out on IBM’s e server, pSeries™ Model 680, using WebSphere Advanced Edition 3.3 and DB2 7.1 with BankFrame host integration services. The RadView web server load test tool, WebLoad, was used to simulate users.
“Eontec and our systems integration partners will enable banks to effectively increase their delivery channel offerings,” says Jim Callan, CEO, Eontec. “Through the deployment of EJB component technology, banks can now enjoy advanced functionality across a range of established channels including bank branches, contact centres and automated teller machines (ATMs) as well as extending those benefits to new and emerging banking channels such as the internet, mobile phones and other wireless devices.”
