First Mobile Management Suite to Offer Instant Client Deployment to
Handheld Devices, Saving Time and Money for IT Managers

With Palm Auto-Install, Afaria is the first mobile management solution to provide IT administrators with the tools necessary to automatically deploy a management client to the device by merely dropping the device into a cradle. With organisations now deploying thousands of these handheld devices at a time, Palm Auto-Install is designed to significantly reduce the time, complexity and cost involved with the initial deployment of Afaria’s Palm OS clients used to provide critical management capabilities to each device.

Afaria's Palm Auto-Install allows any computer running Windows 98, NT or 2000 to act as a distribution point for Afaria clients. Once a distribution point machine is configured according to an organisation’s preferences, end users simply dock their Palm in a serial, Ethernet, or EthIR cradle connected to this machine and press the HotSync button. A pre-configured copy of the Afaria client is then automatically installed on the device. With the Afaria client on the Palm, a user can connect to the Afaria transmitter to perform systems management tasks such as receiving new applications, or collecting hardware and software asset information.

Since Palm Auto-Install does not depend on having HotSync running on the PC, an account for the device does not have to be established before the Afaria client can be installed, and no user intervention is required. The need for overworked IS staff to be involved in the installation and configuration of the Afaria client on Palm devices can be eliminated or significantly reduced. This important enhancement is just one of the ways Afaria helps IS gain control over their mobile business implementations.
