Quest Central for DB2 Adds OS/390 Support to Enhance DBA Productivity
In Multi-Platform Environments
Burnham, Bucks., May 14, 2001 – Quest Software, a leading provider of application management solutions, today announced the release of Quest Central™ for DB2 version 1.1, with added support for IBM OS/390* mainframe systems, DB2* version 7 and new functionality to ease the migration of databases across servers. These enhancements greatly improve DB2 database management and reduce the learning curve for database administrators (DBAs) working on UNIX and mainframe systems.
Quest Central for DB2 significantly improves worker productivity and database reliability by empowering DBAs to efficiently perform complex tasks including performance monitoring, database administration, space management, and SQL tuning, all from a single console. The new release extends SQL tuning technology to the OS/390 environment by providing a graphical tuning environment and context-sensitive advice to improve database response times. Support for the remaining components on OS/390 will be available early next year.
“ISV tools for the DB2 database administrator used to mean mainframe DB2, period,” said Jon Rubin, senior research analyst, Gartner. “Now there are tool suites for managing DB2 across multiple platforms from a single administrative console – a positive step for the growing number of such environments.” MF Customer/Analyst Quote (need permission)
Quest Central for DB2 v1.1 also facilitates the migration of databases from one server to another with drag-and-drop migration. Moving databases is a time consuming and error-prone process, but with Quest Central, users can drag a database or database object and drop it onto another server in seconds. It also migrates dependent objects, data, and security permissions, encompassing the entire migration process.
Additionally, Quest Central for DB2 is the first administration solution on the market to support new features found in DB2 Universal Database version 7. It provides the ability to manage identity columns, SQL procedures, tablespace sizing parameters and other new features.
“Being the only DBA to support our DB2 distributed computing, I have found Quest Central to be an invaluable companion,” said Michael Brady, database administrator for OnMoney Financial. “I have worked with other tools in the past and none are as clean or as complete. After installing Quest Central I felt like a kid in a candy store. It has truly helped OnMoney become proactive rather than reactive to database performance issues in our rapidly changing environment.”
Quest Central for DB2 is a powerful database management solution that supports multiple server platforms all from one integrated interface. Each component found within Quest Central for DB2 offers distinct functionality that focuses on critical aspects of DB2 database management. Quest Central and its components provide consistent features regardless of database platform, allowing a mainframe DBA to manage DB2 on a UNIX or Windows platform or vice-versa.
