18 May 2001 - SAS Institute, the market leader in e-intelligence and data warehousing, has announced the general availability of a new flagship data quality offering. SAS(r) Data Quality Framework helps ensure that companies have complete and correct information about their customers. The solution enhances the value of customer data by reducing duplication and increasing accuracy and usability. It is designed for companies who wish to cleanse their own data.
"The cornerstone of the SAS data quality solution is its ease-of-use combined with its ability to address the ongoing concerns of both IT professionals and business analysts," said Bob Moran research VP and managing Director, the Aberdeen Group. "For many current and emerging applications, a systematic data-cleansing infrastructure and routine can make the multimillion dollar difference between a mediocre and stellar customer-centric marketing campaign. The SAS data quality solution is designed to make data quality a compelling in-house practice for IT and business analysts alike."
"SAS' distinctive competence is being able to bring value to both audiences with the added competitive advantage of running on every platform," said Frank Nauta, SAS' worldwide product manager, data warehousing & data quality. "The framework is designed to meet the main industry challenges in data quality. It is easy to use by business analysts or quality stewards, easy to administer enterprise-wide by IT, and it meets the challenge of processing horsepower able to run on all major server technologies. SAS Data Quality Framework is a dream-team solution for anyone wishing to improve information quality in corporate databases."
The SAS solution includes the core data quality engine, called SAS(r) Data Quality - Cleanse. Data Quality - Cleanse uses matching and standardisation routines to cleanse data. It also includes the award winning SAS/Warehouse Administrator(r) software, which builds scheduled, automated processes to clean and fix any data accessed from legacy systems or put into data warehouses. It also comes bundled with the easy-to-use desktop quality tools from DataFlux Corp, a SAS company.
SAS Data Quality - Cleanse provides a powerful data quality tool for IT professionals to analyse, cleanse and standardise data on a variety of platforms. Seamless integration with SAS/Warehouse Administrator provides access to and management of the metadata repository. The Data Quality - Cleanse engine runs on the following platforms - Alpha Unix, 64bit HP/ SUN/ AIX, 32bit HP/SUN/AIX, MVS, and Windows platforms, and is available with 8.2 of SAS System. SAS and its data quality offering work with more than 50 databases on all major platforms. Other integrated components can be added as needs require, including the framework allows for such things as a CASS certification tool from Dataflux (DFVerify) designed for direct-mail campaigns, according to Nauta
