London 21 May 2001 – Swedish mobile software and portal technology supplier, room33, has signed a deal with consumer giant Procter & Gamble. Under the agreement, the Nordic division of Procter & Gamble has purchased the room33 Mobile Marketing m-sweepstake application and will use it to support the launch of its new Tampax product. The launch is targeted at young girls in Denmark and the sweepstake is scheduled to run on the youth portal, which is sponsored by Procter & Gamble feminine care.

“We chose to partner with room33 after thoroughly researching the SMS applications market, searching for quality applications attractive to the youth sector” said Lars Tong-Strömberg, head of Interactive Media at Procter & Gamble Nordic. “room33 demonstrated greater technical competence than other suppliers and a more in-depth understanding of the end user, the market and the needs of Procter & Gamble as an advertiser.”

Sign up for the sweepstake opened on 15th May 2001 at and the sweepstake itself will commence on 31st May 2001. The sweepstake offers an innovative channel of communication with a local flavour and following evaluation of the success of the campaign Procter & Gamble will consider using other mobile marketing applications to create additional channels of communication using SMS in other Nordic markets.

“Procter & Gamble became a household name around the world supported by implementation of it’s finely tuned marketing communications programme,” said Huw Hampson-Jones, CEO, room33. “The fact that such a widely respected and successful consumer company understands the potential of our mobile marketing applications, supports our belief that services of this kind will have a substantial impact and will quickly become an integral element of such programmes for consumer oriented companies.”

room33 Mobile Marketing is a suite of SMS-based applications that enable the creation of a variety of interactive media channels of communication with large numbers of users simultaneously. All services are instantaneous and permission-based.

“Our services offer new media channels which are quick and easy to use and most importantly are inexpensive in comparison to traditional marketing channels,” said Hampson-Jones. “People are becoming increasingly mobile and we can see other uses for these services apart from pure marketing, for example, adding value to CRM.”
