Fujitsu’s next generation single chip terrestrial DVB demodulator now available Monday 21 May 2001 PDF Print London, May 21 2001 – The next generation single chip COFDM (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) DVB-T compliant demodulator, developed by Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe is now available in volume quantities. Now designed-in by leading customers in a host of consumer applications, including the latest digital terrestrial television receivers and set top boxes, PC television card and in-car infotainment systems, the standard market-ready MB87J217A enables manufacturers to build terrestrial digital front ends with a fast time to market. Fabricated in the latest 0.25 micron process technology and housed in a compact 80-pin TQFP package, the highly integrated device is one of the smallest COFDM demodulator chips currently available. The demodulator, which also incorporates FEC (Forward Error Correction) function, 10-bit A/D converter and 21dB differential input PGA (Programmable Gain Amplifier), offers enhanced echo and co-channel performance and reduced power consumption over previous generation devices. System cost is kept low via the all-digital design with a single fixed crystal oscillator and AGC feedback to the analogue front-end only. The utilisation of algorithms combining feed forward and backward control enables the stable and fast channel tracking demanded, particularly for mobile reception. The device fully conforms to the NorDig digital integrated receiver decoder specification and supports all European digital terrestrial TV standards, supporting 8K and 2K carrier-mode operation. Working evaluation boards for the MB87J217A are also now available for a variety of tuners including Thomson, Philips, Alps and Temic (Microtune). Additional features include: - IF or base-band sampling - Fast synchronisation after channel switch (<70ms) - 6, 7 and 8 MHz channel compliant with a single X-tal - Suitable for Single Frequency Networks (echoes and pre-echoes) - Self synchronising Viterbi decoder - BER, S/N, packet-error, constellation readout via 12C - Phase noise correction - Low power consumption <750mW - Fully DVB-T (ETS 300744) compliant Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe is a leading multimedia semiconductor supplier, offering comprehensive solutions for media networks and multimedia for the home and car.
