Sun Microsystems' Solaris Bandwidth Manager Software and XACCT's N2B Platform Provide Comprehensive Business Infrastructure Solution for Managed Services
Reading, May 23, 2001 — XACCT Technologies, the leading provider of business infrastructure software solutions for IP networks, today announced a comprehensive software infrastructure solution for Managed Services. With Sun Microsystems' Solaris™ Bandwidth Manager software and the XACCT "Network-to-Business" (N2B™) platform, corporations and Internet service providers are able to gain unprecedented understanding of how their network is used and rapidly deploy differentiated high-value services based on this knowledge.
The solution provides optimisation of network traffic and system performance. Solaris Bandwidth Manager software enables network administrators to control the bandwidth allocated to applications, users, and organisations sharing the same Intranet or Internet link. Solaris Bandwidth Manager prioritises both incoming and outgoing network traffic into different classes of service. Network bandwidth is then allocated to each class based on its priority, guaranteeing bandwidth to critical applications for delivery of more predictable service levels.
With XACCT's N2B platform, a complete and comprehensive bandwidth control, manipulation, and utilisation of the network is provided. Solaris Bandwidth Manager software statistics and accounting data are enhanced with XACCT's network-wide collection, correlation and aggregation ability. The joint solution provides a richly detailed picture of usage, QoS and network resource allocation for any or all BSS/OSS applications. BSS/OSS systems are also able to use XACCT's provisioning functions to request flow through provisioning of bandwidth that is then enforced by the Solaris Bandwidth Manager software - a one stop integration point that reduces system administration and facilitates the creation of a fully automated enterprise.
Together, Solaris Bandwidth Manager software and the XACCT N2B platform allow MIS departments and Internet services providers to dramatically simplify integration of their network with their BSS/OSS applications such as customer care and billing. This allows for creation of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and shortens the time-to-revenue for new services.
The joint solution also allows for: network-wide application, service and bandwidth usage metering including QoS monitoring; network-wide usage data synthesis and analysis; bandwidth allocation and balancing based on differentiated network services; flow through automated provisioning of network elements; and Managed Services with end-user SLAs.
"Solaris Bandwidth Manager software and the XACCT N2B platform allow network administrators to control network traffic and utilize that control to deliver targeted service levels," said Andy Ingram, vice president of marketing for the Solaris Group at Sun Microsystems. "This behind-the-wheel control of network traffic, together with XACCT's translation of network usage information to applications, gives MIS departments and Internet service providers the ability to create new high-value, high-quality services.
"Sun and XACCT offer a powerful business infrastructure solution for service providers looking to offer managed services. Together we let them efficiently and profitably manage their networks and create new valuable services." said Eric Gries, CEO and president of XACCT Technologies.
