France Telecom makes Quadratec the backup of choice

London, 21 May, 2001 - Quadratec announced today that it has reached the
landmark figure of 1,000 servers with France Telecom. In the past five
years France Telecom has become a leading client of Quadratec and Time
Navigator, its enterprise-class backup and recovery solution.

"Through using Time Navigator, we have attained superior reliability,
higher than was ever achieved before," explained Frédéric Brisepierre, a
former main contractor for the national centralised backup solution.
"Performance has been increased tenfold for backups and fivefold for data

Time Navigator has been implemented by several group entities, and in all,
about forty applications run in nearly thirty facilities. One of the
largest recently completed has been within the Information Technology
Supervision and Operation Units to backup sales and marketing application

"'The project dates back to 1997", explained Alain Levrard, head of
Operations and Services (DESSI) together with Frederic Brisepierre. "Our
initial remit was to equip the fifty regional units to improve backup
reliability - a goal which we have now achieved."

France Telecom selected Time Navigator for its rich functionality,
particularly the ''Time Navigation" concept, i.e. an innovative and
user-friendly method developed by Quadratec for restoring consistent data
sets. However, other key factors in clinching the decision included
Quadratec's commitment and strategic positioning, product expertise and
control of related technologies. "Quadratec had the advantage of having a
single business line and had the responsiveness and flexibility we
required," stated Brisepierre.

Two types of applications are implemented at France Telecom: one for
internal processes (support, production management, internal management)
and the other for the sales and marketing information system data. The
technical solution selected is built around the Bull Escala T servers,
Storagetek 9710 libraries and DLT 7000 drives. Twenty-eight
configurations were set-up for the initial project serving the Bull, IBM,
H.P. and Sun machines. Since then a dozen additional configurations have
been added. In all, they represent a backup volume of 120 Tb per month.
