eRoom Technology first vendor to deliver a digital workplace offering integrating real time and asynchronous capabilities for extended enterprise project teams.

May 21st, 2001 - eRoom Technology, Inc., a leading provider of digital workplaces for extended enterprise collaboration, introduced today the eRoom Real Time Server and eRoom Advanced Server. Both products build upon the company's award-winning eRoom® digital workplace product to deliver comprehensive collaborative workplace functionality to the company's extensive customer base. The eRoom Real Time Server integrates seamlessly with the eRoom solution's collaborative platform, creating a single comprehensive environment for all project activities.

The eRoom Advanced Server allows enterprise customers to integrate and support multiple eRoom servers, greatly simplifying the management and administration of eRoom infrastructure for large global deployments. From integrated real time collaboration to streamlined management of large user populations, eRoom Technology is expanding the role its digital workplace solutions are playing in driving cross-enterprise business processes and global work initiatives.

"As a worldwide provider of innovative business solutions and services for the e-economy, we are constantly evaluating new technologies that promise to significantly enhance the efficiency of our consulting operations and strengthen client relationships," said Larry Quinlan, global chief information officer for Deloitte Consulting. "The new Real Time Server from eRoom is an example of one such technology.

Combined with the eRoom digital workplace, the Real Time Server extends the solution to offer real time collaboration within the context of eRoom workplaces. The eRoom Real Time Server is a unified solution that supports the full range of interactions typical of global consulting engagements."

"The addition of real time capabilities to a digital workplace application has significant value for distributed teams collaborating on complex projects, providing a way to unify live and asynchronous capabilities within a single interface," said Matt Cain, vice president of Web & Collaborative Strategies with the META Group. "At the same time, organisations have reached the point where this type of collaboration is being implemented on a large-scale, cross-enterprise deployment basis. As this trend continues, IT administrators will be looking not only for this type of collaborative functionality, but also for the ability to simplify the administration and management of these large user populations."

"The eRoom solution is increasingly used as the central workplace for bringing together global project teams across their extended enterprise of customers, suppliers, and other business partners to accelerate product and service delivery and create business value," said Jeffrey Beir, president and chief executive officer for eRoom Technology. "With our Real Time and Advanced Server products, we are adding a new dimension of richness and immediacy to these interactions, while streamlining the management of multiple servers across large global implementations. These products are a strong reaffirmation of our strategy to address the growing needs of global businesses as they embrace extended enterprise collaboration to enhance their business effectiveness."

eRoom Real Time Server

The introduction of the eRoom Real Time Server reinforces the eRoom solution's role as the unifying digital workplace environment for bringing together the globally distributed teams required to drive complex business projects and processes. The eRoom Real Time Server integrates with the eRoom digital workplace to allow teams members to seamlessly move between live and asynchronous collaborative interactions, providing an added element of depth and immediacy to cross-enterprise projects and initiatives.

Available as an optional offering to the eRoom digital workplace, eRoom Real Time Server allows cross-enterprise teams to:

 Share documents and files in real time. Allows team members to collaboratively edit, discuss, and annotate documents within the familiar eRoom environment. All group edits can be saved within an eRoom workplace.

 Engage in whiteboard and brainstorming sessions. Enables distributed teams to simultaneously engage in whiteboarding sessions, using uniquely identified "pens" for free-form drawing and brainstorming. This provides a powerful way for distributed teams to strategise and to visually represent ideas.

 Take advantage of interactive chat sessions. Supports one-to-one and one-to-many chat capabilities. Allows individual team members or groups, located anywhere in the world, to discuss project information in real time.

 Share desktop and applications. Team members can share applications, documents, or access Web sites while participants watch. Desktop control can be easily passed between users.

The eRoom Real Time Server is the perfect solution for teams who frequently need to gather to quickly resolve unanticipated business issues, rapidly respond to competitive threats, or simply take advantage of new business opportunities as they arise.

The eRoom Real Time Server will be available in June as a packaged software offering. More information about the server can be found on

eRoom Advanced Server

For extended enterprise deployments, the eRoom Advanced Server provides the tools required for managing large user populations. Highly scalable and reliable under large member loads, eRoom Advanced Server introduces a wide range of new administration and member management, navigation, provisioning, monitoring and reporting capabilities to the eRoom digital workplace solution.

 Administration and Member Management. Introduces a consolidated view of member list and user directories across an enterprise site. This enables users and administrators to manage large deployments as if it were a single-server environment.

 Navigation. Provides new navigation features, including a unified site homepage that provides users with access to all of the eRooms in which they are members across the enterprise site; and a new personal "My eRooms" homepage that is accessible from any browser client. This provides ubiquitous end-user access to the My eRooms portal page.

 Provisioning. Adds decision logic to the workplace creation process, and assists managing server load. It also introduces customisable approval processes for requesting additional eRoom facilities and servers, and the ability to seamlessly migrate eRooms between the two. This enables companies to proactively balance server loads across an enterprise site.

 Monitoring and Reporting. Adds capabilities for monitoring and recording eRoom, facility and server usage data, which can be used for the purpose of custom reporting, billing, and as the basis of provision and proactive site maintenance. This provides companies granular with visibility into how its eRoom infrastructure is being used across the enterprise, and to whom its use should be charged.

The eRoom Advanced Server will be available late July 2001, and will be delivered as a product and professional services engagement. More information about the eRoom Advanced Server can be found here.
