Alliance Provides Web Hosting Companies With First Ready-To-Go Platform For Building Java Applications Into Managed Hosted Services

London UK, June 4, 2001 – Ensim Corporation, the dominant hosting automation provider, and Sun Microsystems, Inc. have announced an alliance to enable Web hosting companies to deliver server-side Java™ applications for the first time. Ensim’s adoption of Java in its ServerXchange™ hosting operations platform enables the rapid deployment of advanced service plans in data centres. The solution facilitates the management of hosted server hardware and applications, as well as the growing requirement for managing dynamic Web content, through a single control console.

Java software technologies, specifically Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages™ (JSP™), are a popular platform for developing Web-based applications across all leading server platforms. Ensim's addition of Apache Tomcat software to ServerXchange supports an initiative by Sun to proliferate the support of Java technologies on managed, hosted servers, thereby helping developers and customers outsource their Web server operations. Ensim’s ServerXchange uses the Tomcat open-source implementation of the JavaServer Pages and Java Servlet technologies. The Java technologies are developed with broad industry participation through Sun’s Java Community Process.

“Our partnership with Sun creates new inroads for Java-empowered services in data centres,” said Rosen Sharma, president and CEO of Ensim. “In working with Sun, Ensim continues to deliver on our mission of developing innovative hosting automation solutions that contribute to increased profitability for hosting providers, their resellers and their end-user customers.”

"Java technology is the market standard for cross-platform, e-business and informational applications and services on the Web," said Rich Green, vice president and general manager, Java Software, Sun Microsystems. "Our relationship with Ensim gives hosting providers the ability to instantly offer support for Java technology in a competitive and differentiated hosting product."

ServerXchange will support Tomcat in the third calendar quarter of this year.
