New CG 6100C Boosts On-Board Processing for IVR Applications and CAS/ISDN Signalling;
Especially Valuable for Communications Equipment Providers Worldwide

NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), the leading supplier of technology for tomorrow's
networks, today announced the Convergence Generation™ (CG) 6100C Series - offering the
industry's highest capacity and highest density digital interface for connecting to digital
T1 / E1 trunks. Supporting up to 16 T1 / E1 interfaces per slot, the new CG 6100C delivers
unprecedented expansion capacity and dramatically reduces cost per port for communications
equipment providers that are building carrier-class switches, gateways and media servers for
enhanced services.

CG 6100C Series platforms plug into a standard CompactPCI® chassis, allowing developers to
quickly create highly scalable enhanced services equipment that handles interactive voice
response (IVR), switching and fax functionality. Because the platforms are specifically
designed to connect to T1 and E1 trunks, the CG 6100C helps global communications OEMs and
their service provider customers seeking to fill businesses' demands for more voice, data and
fax connections at their sites.

Building in Value, Reducing Cost for Communications Equipment Suppliers

"Enterprise customers cannot afford to wait when they need additional capacity from a
communications service provider, so expandable switches with enhanced services features hold
great appeal. The cost consciousness and revenue pressure that are pervasive in telecom today
further intensify the demand to build in more at a lower cost," said Brian Demers, vice
president and general manager of New Network Solutions at NMS Communications. "The CG 6100C
responds with unrivalled density, a lower cost per port and key features that accelerate
development. Customers can also deploy multiple boards in a system and can achieve densities
as high as 192 T1/E1 spans in a single box. As the technology partner of choice for
communications suppliers worldwide, NMS understands the value we offer by leading the market
in fundamentals such as these while we continue to forge ahead with innovation."

European Computer Telecoms AG (ECT) designs and implements software-based, next-generation
switching systems for national and international carriers. The company serves telecom
carriers from its headquarters in Munich, and from sales and service centres in London,
Paris, Strasbourg, The Hague, Brussels and Vienna "Increased E1 trunk capacity and port
density are critically important in Europe, where E1 trunks are the most commonly used
service," said Dr. Hans Huber, CTO of ECT. "Yet capacity and cost are only the beginning of
the story. By designing switches that deliver multiple value-added services and connect
directly to the public network, ECT equips carriers to realise new business opportunities in
the shortest possible time. Consequently, we look to NMS' CG 6100C for its density, in
addition to enhanced services support and the robust reliability that are part of the
package."

CG 6100C boards allow easy scalability

To maximise the benefits of the CG 6100C's density, on-board digital signal processors (DSP)
provide up to 120 ports of IVR and fax functions, handle on-board echo cancellation, perform
CAS (Channel Associated Signalling) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)
signalling, and can supply call-control features such as DTMF tone handling (to detect and
generate touch-tone signals). By reducing overhead on a system's main processor and
eliminating the need for extra resource boards, these integrated capabilities enable
developers to design cost-effective, single-chassis systems that can scale to high
capacities.

High-availability features include support for the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers
Group's hot-swap standard, which allows CG 6100C boards to be added, removed or replaced
without halting operation of a working system.

Like other NMS platforms, the CG 6100C Series takes advantage of the Natural Access™
development environment, which works with Windows NT®, Windows® 2000, Solaris™ and Linux®
operating systems. Natural Access speeds development of new communications solutions built
with NMS technology by providing a set of application program interfaces (APIs) that are
consistent across operating systems and communications protocols. This unified environment
also allows the CG 6100C to be easily deployed together with NMS' Alliance Generation® and
other Convergence Generation platforms - multiplying the array of feature and capacity
combinations available to communications equipment suppliers.

The CG 6100C Series will be available in a variety of configurations to meet the requirements
of communications equipment developers and their customers, beginning in Q3 2001.
