J. D. Edwards Focuses on Collaborative Applications that Enable Companies to “Operate on Leveled Playing Field” At Annual User Conference in Denver

From FOCUS 2001 - Today, at its annual FOCUS user group conference and exposition, J.D. Edwards, a leading provider of agile, collaborative solutions for the Internet economy, announced strategies that enable mid-enterprise companies to take full advantage of the next wave of business-to-business e-commerce - collaborative commerce.

At today’s press conference in Denver, J.D. Edwards’ management highlighted the success of the company’s revitalisation efforts and its plans to meet the business and technology challenges of its more than 6,000 customers. J.D. Edwards enables companies to continually tailor their technology investments to meet evolving business strategies by developing rich feature/function solutions built on a flexible, open architecture. This removes roadblocks faced by mid-enterprise companies who demand lower cost-of-ownership, more comprehensive integration and quicker time-to-value.

"Too often, vendors offer mid-enterprise companies either overly complex and expensive technologies geared for large enterprises, or rudimentary software that barely meets their current, let alone future, needs," said J.D. Edwards’ CEO, president and chairman Ed McVaney. "Our customers need to effectively integrate functions such as ERP, supply chain, and e-commerce, enable fast set up of ‘any-to-any’ electronic collaboration with suppliers and customers, reduce overall total cost of ownership and deliver value quickly."

"The right collaborative applications - appropriately scaled, flexible, and easy to implement and use - can enable mid-enterprise companies to operate on a levelled playing field with businesses of any size," McVaney said.

With more than 200,000 potential customers in the mid-market segment, analyst group AMR Research believes the enterprise commerce market will grow from about $108 billion in 2001 to approximately $264 billion in 2005. According to Hank Bonde, executive vice president and COO of J.D. Edwards, the company’s heritage in the mid-enterprise segment, combined with its complete vision to deliver collaborative applications, uniquely qualifies J.D. Edwards to lead its customers into the future of collaborative commerce.

This has helped create a reinvigorated, focused J.D. Edwards."

Industry pundits have already acknowledged the value of these steps. A recent AMR Research report states, "J.D. Edwards is back to profitability." It further states, "The message seems clear. End-user companies are still progressing with their e-business strategies, be it with a little more caution. But now they are looking to utilise their supply chain relationships rather than spend time on internal advancements."

During this year’s FOCUS conference, which runs from June 11 through 14, J.D. Edwards will demonstrate its renewed mid-enterprise focus and commitment to deliver customer-driven solutions. Edwards’ chief marketing officer and senior vice president, highlighted three additional announcements related to the company’s renewed focus on serving mid-enterprise customers

Advanced Planning Solutions for Mid-Enterprise Announcement

J.D. Edwards will deliver its advanced planning solution to the mid-enterprise via four key modules:

· Collaborative forecasting and demand management;

· Supply chain planning;

· Order promising;

· Production scheduling

"Now mid-enterprise companies can invest in the highest-value advanced planning functionality that they need one module at a time," said Wyatt. J.D. Edwards also has partnered with IBM to provide services bundled with these advanced planning modules.

"J. D. Edwards now offers much-needed advanced planning solutions to the often-neglected but highest-growth segment for collaborative supply chain applications, mid-enterprise companies and divisions of Global 1000 companies with revenues of $250 million to $3 billion," Wyatt said.

Wyatt also highlighted two other related announcements:

J. D. Edwards and Andersen Team Up for Automotive Industry Solution

J.D. Edwards announced that it has partnered with Andersen to meet the rapid growth in the automotive industry. Together, they plan to deliver a highly tailored, industry-specific solution for mid-enterprise suppliers and OEMs in the automotive industry.

Vertical-Focused ASP Program Wins 50 New Customers

J.D. Edwards continues to realise strong growth in its hosted applications business. In the month of May, the company booked 50 new customer wins.

"This growth strongly validates our strategy to work in conjunction with leading ASP alliance partners to deliver hosted applications tailored for specific industries and markets," Wyatt said.

At FOCUS, J. D. Edwards brings together its QUEST User Group, over 8,500 business customers from around the world and partners that include IBM, Sun, Andersen, Accenture, Compaq, Ariba and nearly 100 other technology and consulting companies to examine critical business-to-business issues.

This year’s conference highlights breakthrough technologies for rapid deployment of private trading exchanges and other collaborative applications, including industry-specific solutions. It also showcases dramatic advances in supply chain planning and execution software. FOCUS 2001 features key speakers including former Oracle president and COO Ray Lane, leading industry analyst Jim Shepard of AMR, Kenneth Blanchard, co-author of "The One-Minute Manager," and Patrick Thompson, Turner Industries CIO and president of J.
