From FOCUS 2001 - Reinforcing a commitment to advancing collaborative commerce, J.D. Edwards & Company now allows companies to engage in all nine steps of the Collaborative Planning Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR®) standards. Using J.D. Edwards’ software, companies that want to implement these standards can do so without any additional applications.

Created by the Voluntary Inter-industry Commerce Standards Association (VICS), CPFR is a concept that uses a set of standard process and technology models to enable collaboration among the partners in the supply chain process. Partners agree to mutual business objectives, work together to develop sales and operational plans, and then collaborate electronically to generate and update sales forecasts and replenishment plans.

"CPFR allows every link in the supply chain to work from the same plan, and enables immediate adjustments to changes in that plan when demand or policies change," said Joe Andraski, Vice Chairman of the VICS CPFR Committee. "Companies who have adopted these standards are already seeing significant benefits, including higher service levels, decreased inventories and increased sales."

The CPFR standards consist of a nine-step process that companies follow with their suppliers:

1. Develop Front-End Agreement - Enterprise Content Manager and Business Intelligence

2. Create Joint Business Plan - Production and Distribution Planning

3. Create Sales Forecast - Demand Planning

4. Identify Exceptions for Sales Forecast - Demand Planning

5. Resolve/Collaborate on Exception Items - Demand Planning and Demand Collaboration

6. Create Order Forecast - Production and Distribution Planning

7. Identify Exceptions for Order Forecast - Production and Distribution Planning and Order Promising

8. Resolve/Collaborate on Exception Items - Production and Distribution Planning

9. Order Generation - One World" Xe - Fulfillment Management

In addition to providing the technology companies need to implement each step of the CPFR business processes, J.D. Edwards’ software gives businesses the ability to collaborate electronically across different platforms, overcoming one of the main obstacles to CPFR.

"We fully support the CPFR standards, which match our goals of helping our customers collaborate with trusted partners and customers throughout the supply chain," said Hank Canitz Director of Solutions Marketing, Consumer Industries of J.D. Edwards. "Our applications take the headache out of finding software that is compliant with the CPFR process and provide a seamless solution facilitating full scale supply chain collaboration."
