…Alliance with Sun marks first implementation of picture messaging solution for Java-based
handset; Alliance with ACCESS to provide a single device multi-protocol mobile Internet

Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMVT), and the world's leading
supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communications
services, has announced strategic alliances with Sun and ACCESS to enhance its innovations in
mobile services.

Comverse has joined forces with Sun to demonstrate the first implementation of its picture
messaging solution using mobile Java. Picture messaging is one of the most advanced
applications of its kind to run on the mobile Java platform, enabling true multimedia on 2G
networks. It is also a key function of Comverse's industry-leading multimedia messaging
solution, allowing mobile subscribers to create, send, and full-colour visual messages, from
mobile device, such as a handset or a PDA, to another mobile device or via the web. Picture
messaging extends Comverse's already rich messaging capabilities, which include voice, fax,
email, short and instant messaging and streaming video.

The joint project with Sun launches Comverse's membership in Sun's Java Communities Program
(JCP), a cross-industry, standards-setting body for the Java environment. All major handset
manufacturers have announced support for Java, and Sun anticipates that 60 per cent of
handsets will be Java-enabled by 2003.

"We are very excited to be working with Comverse, the messaging market leader," Nancy Yavne,
General Manager of Sun's Mobile Java Development Center. "They bring an in-depth knowledge of
the telecommunications industry, along with a dynamic portfolio of cutting-edge mobile
applications which can significantly leverage the handset enhancements we are building
through Mobile Java."

Comverse has also partnered with ACCESS, a leading provider of embedded Internet software, to
enable carriers to deliver mobile Internet on a single device that supports the three most
popular mobile Internet standards - Compact HTML (CHTML), wireless application protocol
(WAP), and XHTML-Basic. Comverse will deliver its router-based wireless Internet gateway
Mega.flow to enable a wide range of wireless Internet services via the ACCESS "Compact
Net-Front plus" microbrowser. The joint solution will support multi-protocol handsets using
colour screens, graphics and Java, with the gateway supporting load balancing, real-time
content billing, mobile usage value-added services, and a class of service. Comverse's mobile
portal will also be integrated, offering carriers a personalised interface for their
corporate and consumer users.

"The collaboration between Comverse and ACCESS enables mobile operators around the world to
provide innovative wireless Internet services like Japan's i-mode," said Toru Arakawa,
President and Chief Executive Officer of ACCESS. "We are excited about the opportunity to
work closely with Comverse in exploring the full potential of the mobile Internet."

Zeev Bregman, Chief Executive Officer of Comverse, stated, "These alliances further validate
our commitment to cultivate strategic partnerships with market leaders and hence help
operators to deliver exciting new solutions to their customers. Sun's mobile Java solution
and ACCESS' multi-protocol browser are on the forefront of cutting-edge technology and by
combining these solutions with Comverse's, we are bringing tomorrow's wireless experience
today, thus enabling carriers to generate new revenue streams."
