IBM Global Services has announced a ten year contract with Bass Leisure Retail, the UK's
leading managed restaurant and pub group, worth £38 million (over $50 million). Under the
terms of the contract, IBM will outsource BLR's Data Centre operations. Bass Leisure Retail
will benefit from IBM's expertise in ensuring the maximum efficiency and availability of its
IT systems. The Data Centre outsourced service will be tightly integrated with the existing
managed service provided by IBM which manages the technology deployed in BLR's 2,100 pub and
restaurant outlets in the UK and Europe. BLR has also announced its intention to perform an
exclusive joint verification exercise with IBM with a view to IBM outsourcing their data and
voice network.

IBM's global resource base will ensure that BLR has ready access to the technology skills
required in the modern business environment.

Mike Fisher, IT Director at Bass Leisure Retail, said: "It's essential to Bass's overall
efficiency that our Data Centre operations are responsive, effective and low cost. We believe
that the people skills required to achieve this are better located in IBM where the people
can be assured of the opportunity to develop IT based careers. In addition, we are looking
for IBM to work closely with BLR to help us make use of technology for BLR's business
advantage. IBM will give us the support and technical expertise we need in order to put new
e-business systems in place".

Andrew Spencer, VP for IBM Global Services, Northern Europe said: "We are delighted that BLR
has chosen IBM to manage its Data Centre operations. BLR will be able, going forward, to
focus more on its core business of running pubs and restaurants while we do for them what we
do best".
