Networks Telecom, NEC, Birmingham, June 26th – 28th 2001 (Hall 17, stand IPZ36 –IPZ102) - As one of the leading enablers of next generation networks, Intel today announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Crane Telecommunications Group with respect to the distribution of the Intel® Converged Communications Platform in the UK and Ireland.

The Intel Converged Communications Platform enables value-added resellers (VARs) and system integrators to consolidate many telephony and business communications applications such as unified messaging and speech dialer solutions, from multiple vendors onto a single system. This in turn allows small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to rapidly and cost-effectively expand their business communications capabilities at any time. The platform will be demonstrated at Networks Telecom at the Intel stand.

Intel® Converged Communication Platform - A Communications Solution For a Growing Business

Based on Dialogic® CT Media™ server software, the Intel Converged Communications Platform is an expandable, upgradeable, standards-based, application-ready telephony platform that, combined with applications provided by CT Media™ Value Network third parties, provides business critical communications services for SMEs.

The Intel Converged Communications Platform enables Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to build scalable, converged communications applications that can be deployed on traditional networks, IP networks or both. CT Media developers are backed by the CT Media Value Network, an ecosystem of CT Media-compatible products, services and sales channels.

Crane Telecom

The Crane Telecommunications Group is a rapidly expanding European telecommunications company focused on both the SME and the larger corporate market. The company is a value-added provider of telecommunications products and services that are sold through a network of resellers in the UK, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. Crane distinguishes itself in the industry through offering the complete solution and customer service to the reseller market, from products and equipment to services and training.

The company was established in July 1990 by David George, Tracy Jackson and David Campbell-James and today is one of the UK’s largest value-added providers of telecommunications equipment and services. Over 250 resellers today buy products and services from Crane - from standard telephony to fully converged IP voice and data solutions.

“The market for open, server-based telephony products has been evolving for a number of years but this is the first converged communications platform that we’ve seen that delivers openness both at the hardware and software levels,” claims Tracy Jackson, Group Director at Crane Telecom. “Crane believes that the Intel Converged Communications Platform will provide SMEs with the choice and flexibility that to date has only been available to larger organisations – and at a cost-effective price”.

"This new platform, combined with a suite of communication applications offered by our CT Media Value Network members, continues to fuel the growth of next generation converged communications solutions," said Howard Bubb, vice president & general manager of the Telecommunications and Embedded Group, Intel Corporation. "We’re delighted to be able to announce that Crane Telecom will be distributing the Intelâ Converged Communications Platform in the UK and Ireland. Crane brings with them a commitment to developing the market for converged communications solutions in Northern Europe and a strong capability to provide both training and expertise to both voice and data VARs”.

Communication Solutions For Next Generation Networks

Each of the ISVs participating as launch partners are providing their own unique value-add to the Intel Converged Communications Platform by providing interoperable CT Media-based applications that deliver unmatched price performance and functionality compared to single application systems available today.

These applications will provide customers with unprecedented choices for their business critical communication applications and Intel continues to encourage and support third-party developers to expand the number and type, of applications available for the Intel Converged Communications Platform.

§ Connect IT Communications - Contact Centre, Software PBX, Voicemail, Auto Attendant

"The Intel Converged Communications Platform provides an important new route to market for software developers such as ourselves" said Filip De Geijter, Managing Director, Connect-IT. "While the telephony market is without doubt more open today, system integrators that work with our products still require a broad range of computing and telephony skills in order to build custom solutions. With the Intel Converged Communications Platform, the integration of applications has become far easier - allowing integrators to work with multiple best-of-breed products on a single platform. Working closely with Intel also gives us the significant opportunity to expand internationally".

"There have been many attempts to develop PC based telephony servers over the last few years. The Intel Converged Communications Platform however represents the first standards-based server that represents a real threat to the old-school key-systems and PBXs. “ said Henrik Thomé, CEO and President, Envox Group. “The ICCP represents huge opportunities to channels that don't have any prior experience from this field. It is the first of its kind to enable a real mass market approach and will tear apart the old boundaries between telephony and data VARs."
