YDILO, A NEW VOICE PORTAL SERVICE FOR SPANISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES, GIVES CALLERS ACCESS TO INTERNET CONTENT BY VOICE Tuesday 26 June 2001 PDF Print Ydilo platform based on the voice portal reference system from Intel Networks Telecom, NEC, Birmingham, June 26th - 28th 2001 (Hall 17, stand 17IPZ36 – 17IPZ102) - Intel Corporation today announced that People Communications has based its new Ydilo voice portal service for the Spanish and Latin American markets on the voice portal reference system from the Telecommunciations and Embedded Group of Intel. The service has initially been launched in Spain and expansion to other Latin American companies is expected before the end of the year. Ydilo, the first voice portal in Castilian Spanish, enables individuals to access Internet content - such as information on cinemas, restaurants, taxis, finance, weather, news headlines and sports - simply by picking up their phones and requesting the information they need by voice. Founded in 1999, Ydilo is headquartered in Spain and has blue chip institutional investors including Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), Mercapital, Ericcson Innova and Dinamia. To access the service, individuals must dial 902 888 902 from either a standard phone or a cellphone. Calls are answered by a speech-enabled automated attendant system that lists the content available on the site and asks what information the caller requires. The system uses speech recognition technology to identify the caller’s request and then speaks back that information. Callers can request ‘help’ at any time, have information repeated, return to the initial menu - and even be transferred to a restaurant, cinema etc. to make a booking. The Ydilo service runs on the voice portal reference system (VPRS) from the Telecommunciations and Embedded Group of Intel. The VPRS is a new hardware and software platform targeted at large enterprises and network-based Service Providers that are seeking to provide access to - and control of - Internet content by voice. The VPRS reduces the processing load on the system host, allowing higher densities per chassis, improving speech recognition accuracy and reducing latency. The VPRS features Continuous Speech Processing (CSP) software, a technology that extends the way speech technologies can be deployed on its extensive range of voice processing hardware products. CSP provides improved algorithms that help increase the accuracy of speech recognition as well as providing support for echo-cancellation, voice activity detection and barge-in (enabling users to interrupt speech prompts by speaking over them). "Reliability and scaleability system were significant factors in our decision to opt for the Intel voice portal reference system" claims Domingo Montesdeoca, CEO of People Communications. "The platform integrates tightly with our PeopleBASE software Framework, speeding up time-to-market for the new scalable and robust voice applications being developed for the Ydilo portal - as well as for applications being developed for other companies through our new Voice ASP business operation". “We have witnessed significant growth both in the deployment of voice portals as well as in their usage on a truly global scale over the last 12 months” claims Bert Leysen, Director of Marketing, Dialogic Telecom Europe. “The comprehensive nature of Ydilo services shows both the scope of what can be achieved using this new technology as well as the interest within Spanish-speaking countries. We are delighted to have been chosen by People Communications to provide the core technology platform for Ydilo”.
