Symbol Technologies announced today its second generation of Pocket PC O/S handheld computers
with enhanced performance and capability, designed for today's growing number of mobile
workforce users. The device features bar code scanning and wireless local area network
(WLAN) connectivity, empowering mobile workers to execute jobs quickly and efficiently, even
in the most challenging environments.

The PPT 2800 is the second handheld computer based on the Microsoft Pocket PC introduced in
less than a month. Earlier, Symbol announced the PPT 8100, which features wireless wide area
network (WWAN) and WLAN communications and connectivity.

Symbol, the global leader for key and pen-based mobile computing devices for the vertical
application marketplace offers the most extensive family of handheld computers based on the
Pocket PC O/S. In 2000, Symbol introduced the first Pocket PC mobile computing device to be
targeted towards vertical markets, the PPT 2700. Customers currently using Symbol Pocket PC

The PPT 2800 has been engineered for a number of vertical applications including field
sales/service automation, handheld data collection, route accounting and test and measurement
data in markets such as retail, hospitality, healthcare, transportation & logistics, office
management and education. Features include an Intel Strong Arm SA 1100 Processor @ 206 MHz,
enhanced monochrome display technology, 32 MB RAM/32 MB ROM and a full Pocket PC professional
operating system.

The multi-functional PPT 2800 is sealed to IP54 standards for protection against windblown
rain and dust, and withstands multiple drops to concrete up to four feet. The integrated bar
code scanner and wireless LAN radio card allows users to collect, send and receive data
anywhere within range of an 802.11 or 802.11b wireless LAN, making the PPT 2800 a compact,
durable solution for a variety of vertical markets.
