Mainova Telecom expands network with ECI Telecom’s Lightscape Networks’ Monday 2 July 2001 PDF Print Mainova upgrades its metropolitan area network with market leading optical technology PETAH TIKVA, Israel - The ECI Telecom Group (NASDAQ/NM symbol: ECIL - news) today announced that Mainova Telecom, based in Main, Germany, has selected XDM™ a pioneering next-generation optical platform from ECI Telecoms’ spin off company Lightscape Networks, as part of a major network expansion. The XDM orders follow previous orders from Mainova Networks for ECI Telecom equipment, which included SYNCOM SDH based multiplexers, as well as a recent LumiNet 4 channel 2.5 Gb/s (upgradeable) DWDM expansion. Mainova Telecom (Mainova TK) chose Lightscape Networks’ XDM optical platform for its scalability and versatility to help it meet a growing demand amongst business customers in the Frankfurt/Main area for a wide selection of advanced data and voice communications services, as well as multimedia and Internet services. This solution consists of a hybrid ADM/Digital Cross Connect, which functions as optical gateway. The extremely compact XDM offers dynamic ADM functionality (from SDM-1 until multiple SDM-64) and can be extended up to 3074 SDM-1 equivalents. Following tests, Mainova TK selected the XDM solution to be the primary building block for all future network expansion. So far, seven units have already been installed and are carrying live traffic. Mr. Baumgaertner, General Manager, Mainova Telecom commented: “We chose the XDM platform for developing our network because we were very impressed with the system’s flexibility deriving from its integrated digital cross-connect design.” He added that: “the XDM is the ideal solution for city and metro networks as it can be expanded quickly and easily, providing capacity on demand to accommodate any future network growth”. With this investment Mainova TK follows in the footsteps of other German telecommunications Service Providers that are already using XDM for its extensive scalability, flexibility and ability to provide the user with a cost-effective ‘pay as you grow’ approach, allowing them to offer a greater variety of services in their network. - ends - About Lightscape Networks Lightscape Networks is a leading provider of next generation intelligent optical networking solutions.
