Overland Data, Inc., the leader in automated tape backup products, and Bull Infrastructure & Systems, the net infrastructure supplier, today announced the availability of LibraryXpress Neo Series for the Bull's Escala and Express5800 Open System server families. The backup solutions integrating this latest generation of storage libraries from the US vendor are marketed by Bull in Europe and by 2AI for France and neighbouring countries.

"Overland's LXN 2000 is the highest performance mid-range offering in terms of density and reliability," says Michel Lepert, vice president for storage solutions at Bull Infrastructure & Systems. "With such new features as the PCI interface and the VIA card, it is a highly promising mid-range solution that complements Bull's offering. We wish to associate LibraryXpress Neo Series with the backup solutions deployed in SAN projects."

"We are extremely happy and proud to observe that once again Bull, an Overland OEM partner since 1996, finds that the Neo Series forms a real complement to its products and is highly suited to its customers' needs," emphasises Nick Charles, Overland vice president for EMEA. "With the DRA architecture, the third generation of Overland's smart, expandable automated SmartScale Storage® product, we have been able to design an excellent, fault-tolerant tape backup solution offering a high data availability for mid-range servers. We hope to support Bull in the SAN market and once again affirm Overland's prowess in terms of advanced, reliable automated backup."

In addition to the benefits of storage density, reliability and availability (high availability system, hot-swappable interchangeable modules), the Neo Series enables any of the following tape media formats to be used: DLT* 8000, Super DLT* and/or LTO (Linear Tape Open) Ultrium* drives within the same library.

Each Neo Series LXN2000 module supports two drives and 26 DLT or SDLT cartridges, or 30 LTO cartridges. A Neo Series library system is scalable to six LXN2000 modules, with a maximum configuration of 12 drives and 156/180 cartridges in a Bull standard cabinet.

The third generation Distributed Robotic ArchitectureT (DRAT) concept equips each module with its own robotics in a multi-module system, proving once again Overland's global leadership in modular robotics.

The Neo Series also features a Virtual Interface ArchitectureT (VIAT) option bay. Based upon the industry standard Compact PCI bus, the VIA expansion slots allow for customised library capabilities. An optional Fibre Channel interface, capable of supporting LAN-free and server-free backup on all major backup software packages, is available to connect to Storage Area Networks.
