9 July 2001 -- Walker Interactive Systems, Inc. (OTCBB: WALK), a global provider of e-business solutions for the enterprise and LegacyJ, has announced an agreement to resell LegacyJ PERCobol compiler to benefit businesses through application integration that will transform their COBOL applications into modern Java applications and developments.
The LegacyJ PERCobol compiler delivers advanced COBOL functionality and extensive COBOL syntax support combined with Java functional capabilities. Walker will be using this additional tool within its e-business consulting group to provide collaborative commerce solutions to its Client base by taking the clients' significant investment in COBOL applications and transforming them into Java. Transforming Mainframe COBOL applications into Java provides these businesses with the option of deploying their applications on a broad choice of platforms including Linux and Windows 2000/NT.
"Walker is delighted to be working with LegacyJ's PERCobol COBOL to Java compiler, said Peter Willson, Vice President of Enterprise Server Technology, Research & Development at Walker. "PERCobol allows the traditional investment in COBOL based applications to be re-used and enhanced in a modern Java environment. We can also now give our customers an extended range of platform choices on which to run their Internet and Intranet based business systems because Java is platform independent."
"LegacyJ is pleased to have a world-class e-business company such as Walker offer COBOL to Java Solutions based around our core technology, said Chuck Townsend, President of LegacyJ. "Currently there are roughly 180 billion lines of COBOL worldwide and nearly eighty percent of all deployed applications today are in COBOL, representing a tremendous market opportunity. Based on Walker's extensive experience providing COBOL based solutions and its blue-chip customer base, we believe we have aligned ourselves with the perfect partner."
