Users can now obtain a quick estimate and full quote at the Nationwide website (www.nationwide.co.uk), as well as buy online. About 20% of internet users, or 2.9m people in the UK, have already searched for cover over the internet and about 500,000 have bought online (source: MORI Financial Services - June 2001).
Nationwide's premiums and benefits are the same as those offered via the telephone. In a random sample of callers asking for a quote, Nationwide was saving drivers on average more than £50 a year compared with their existing insurer (May 2001). A courtesy car and full European cover are standard features of Nationwide Car Insurance.
Anyone without internet access can still obtain quotes and cover by telephoning 0500 30 20 19.
Jim Willens, Nationwide's e-commerce director, said: "Anyone searching the internet for a good deal on car insurance will find our website quick and simple - and probably a money saver, too!"
