Netstore and Dell Save BT's Sales Force £1 Million Thursday 12 July 2001 PDF Print Netstore and Dell today announced that they are working together to provide an on-line backup infrastructure to 3000 of BT Retail's Major Business sales force in a deal that will save BT over £1 million in hardware and operating costs. Working with BT's Information Systems group, the solution draws on Netstore for its ASP expertise and the implementation of its On-line Backup (OLB) software, and Dell's award-winning PowerEdge 6400 server technology and PowerVault 210S storage systems for data archiving. This blend of software and hardware products combined with Dell's new 24x7 Premier Enterprise Support is designed to significantly increase the efficiency of the existing internal back-up process and eliminate the need for additional hardware. It will also drastically reduce the need for support from BT's internal IT engineers, resulting in substantial cost savings. The automated backup solution allows the management and monitoring of data backup across BT's Major Business sales force. It provides the reassurance to mobile workers and IT managers that data is being backed up regularly and securely, allowing them to focus on core activities. The previous system, based on expensive and bulky hardware, relying on a system of zip and Jaz drives and backup tapes, proved unsuccessful being overly user-dependent and requiring the manual backup of data at the end of every working day. In the event of a PC hardware failure, loss or theft, down time was high, taking around 5 days for a replacement PC to arrive without the guarantee of having all original data to reload onto the new computer. "The backup of business-critical data is of paramount importance to us. By our calculations, with the previous manual system, only 10% of the sales force was adequately backing up data on a regular basis" said Richard Collier, Head of IT Innovation & Infrastructure, BT Retail Major Business. "The Netstore/Dell remote backup solution does the backing up for us with minimal effort and responsibility on the sales executives and provides us with a way to manage and monitor the back up process across the whole Major Business sales force. In the event of computer loss or failure we aim to provide the user with a newly configured laptop, complete with all original data, within 24 hours. It will also considerably reduce costs with a reduced investment in hardware and support" "We have experienced a lot of interest in the Netstore/Dell on-line backup solution both internally and externally", continued Collier. "Following the successful implementation within Major Business, there is good potential for further internal rollout within BT, as well as the possibility of us being able to offer the solution to our customers - this is something that we feel is too good to keep to ourselves!" "We are delighted to be working with BT and Dell to deliver this solution", said Gary Smith, CEO of Netstore. "We see this as an exciting new development in our relationship. The high impact of this solution makes it a compelling business proposition for other companies and we therefore look forward to the opportunities that this will generate." "Working closely with partners gives customers the crucial advantage of choosing the exact combination of products and services that match their business requirements", said David Stacey, General Manager, Dell Internet Partner Division. "Our relationship with Netstore has ensured that BT can take advantage of Dell server and storage solutions quickly, cost effectively, and with the level of customer satisfaction customers have come to expect from a Dell-based solution". - ends - About Netstore Founded in 1996, Netstore is Europe's leading Application Service Provider (ASP), offering software as a service on a multi-tenancy basis (a central infrastructure shared between many users across many customers) and delivering its services on a predicable, pay-per-seat basis via the Internet.
