As Global Spending on Outsourcing Increases, XcelleNet and ioko365 Initiative Aims to Ease the Burden of Remote and Mobile Systems Administration

XcelleNet Inc., the leading provider of management solutions for remote systems and mobile and wireless devices, today announced an outsourcing initiative with ioko365 (formerly Infocom), the specialist provider of implementation and management solutions for IT systems. The alliance provides XcelleNet customers, including key players in the financial, retail and pharmaceutical sectors, the ability to free themselves from the day-to-day administration of their IT systems. ioko365 designs, builds and manages distributed data collection platforms and applications which incorporate XcelleNet’s Afaria and RemoteWare systems management software. The partnership signifies a further affirmation of outsourcing’s growth in Europe, as detailed in a recent IDC report*, and reflects the increasing importance of remote and mobile working to major organisations.

Afaria works by enabling the remote management of mobile devices, including Windows-based Laptops, Palm, Pocket PC, Psion and RIM Blackberry platforms, and has enjoyed considerable acceptance from industry leaders embracing employee mobile working. Once the decision to deploy Afaria has been made, ioko365 complements the service by providing tailored implementation skills and management expertise. This negates the need to hire in-house IT staff in order to manage the flow of software, content and anti-virus upgrades to mobile workers in real-time. XcelleNet and ioko365 intend to extend this service to RemoteWare, XcelleNet’s fixed-site remote systems management solution. RemoteWare is widely used in the retail sector to poll EPoS figures from, deploy software to, and manage the IT systems in multiple remote branch locations.

*Source: NUA Internet Surveys, 25 May 01 (www.nua.net): ‘Global spending on IT outsourcing continued to increase during 2000, says IDC, and the 100 largest contracts were worth a total of USD58 billion.’

"In our view, XcelleNet’s Afaria and RemoteWare products offer a unique, proven and leading edge solution for complex, mission-critical data collection and remote systems management,” said ioko365 XcelleNet professional services manager, Darren Turner.

XcelleNet Senior Vice President and Managing Director EMEA, Bob Apollo, said, “Our partnership with ioko365 enables our customers to gain access to immediate management expertise in operating and managing complex environments supporting hundreds or thousands of remote and mobile users. I expect this partnership to deliver faster implementations and more cost-effective management solutions for organisations who find themselves pressed to find the necessary time and internal resources.”
