Munich, 16 July 2001 – Arcor AG & Co., a fixed-line telecommunications provider in Germany, part owned by Vodaphone, has selected CacheFlow’s content acceleration appliances to reduce loading times on its online service, Nexgo. The service currently provides a million users with up to date information on business, computing, the Internet and entertainment.

The deployment of two high-end systems from CacheFlow’s cIQ Client Accelerator series on Arcor’s 50,000 km IP backbone in Germany follows the recent rollout of a new PIA (Personal Internet Assistant) Service by Arcor for Nexago users. PIA turns the Internet into a communications centre for users with a comprehensive range of service features including unified messaging, an organiser and an address book.

Nigel Hawthorn, Marketing Director EMEA at CacheFlow, said, “Service providers are increasingly turning to CacheFlow to help them maintain strict levels of quality of service and increase their network capacity. The industry is realising that you can’t just throw bandwidth at every problem and the real issue is how to manage your network and Internet data streams more efficiently. This is where CacheFlow is helping company’s like Arcor make a difference”.

The CacheFlow appliances act as central proxy servers freeing up additional Internet peering capacity on the Arcor backbone with the result of speeding up the delivery of Internet content to the network periphery. Arcor plans to install the cIQ server accelerator at a further 20 points on the edge of its network to enable the point of content delivery to move much closer to the physical location of its users. This will enable Arcor to deliver faster web page download times to Nexago users when accessing the many sites and links on the service.

Internet Service Providers can use CacheFlow appliances to significantly increase capacity and can enable providers to achieve a 30-35% saving in bandwidth use. CIQ Client Accelerators are ideally suited for deployment on the network edge between end users and the Internet, remote sites and head office. The products enable Internet data streams to be efficiently managed and monitored, enabling service providers to scale their infrastructure for high peaks in user demand.
