Programme to be Proof of Excellence that can lead to Reduced Information
Technology Costs and Increased Productivity

29 October 1997

Dedicated to establishing an industry standard of competence for IT
professionals using Oracle technologies, Oracle Corp. today unveiled the
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) Programme. Developed and owned by
Oracle Education, the OCP Programme will provide companies a standard
worldwide measure for establishing technical competence using Oracle
technologies.

"In our research on certification, we have found that companies can save
more than £8,000 annually per certified employee due to increased
efficiencies and less down time," said Ellen Julian, analyst for
International Data Corporation. "Certification programmes can help
companies identify competent technology professionals who can have a
significant impact on a business' bottom line."

Oracle Certified Professional Programme (OCP) seeks to identify individuals
demonstrating a depth of knowledge in a variety of Oracle technical
professional roles. Individuals are required to pass a series of tests
related to their technical professional role to achieve certification. The
computer-based tests, which will be administered by Sylvan Prometric, are
based on a combination of real-world problem solving and in-depth technical
knowledge.

Initially, certification will be offered for Oracle Database
Administrators. Additional tracks are scheduled to be added over time. To
help individuals determine their readiness for certification, Oracle will
make assessment tests available on-line at
http://education.oracle.com/certification. In addition, Oracle will offer
post-certification training to certified professionals to keep them current
on advances in Oracle technologies.

"We are committed to making our customers more successful by establishing a
standard for measuring competence on Oracle technologies," said Ray Lane,
president and chief operating officer, Oracle Corporation. "With the
increasing reliance on advanced technology systems to gain a competitive
advantage, the pressure is on IT managers to hire and retain the best
people. The Oracle Certified Professional Program will take a lot of the
guess work out of hiring database administrators."

The OCP Program is designed to work in tandem with Oracle Education. Job
role-based Instructor-Led Training (ILT) courses, web-based training over
Oracle Learning Architecture, and CD-ROM based training are all available
from Oracle Education and directly support the content of Oracle's
certification tests.
