XACCT’s Network-to-Business Platform Helps Drive Profit for VoIP and other IP Services
READING, UK, July 23, 2001 -TELUS Corporation, one of Canada’s leading telecommunications companies, has selected XACCT Technologies’ Network-to-Business (N2B™) platform as part of its back-office infrastructure to help improve customer service and the profitability of its Voice over IP (VoIP) and Point of Sale (POS) services. TELUS plans to deploy XACCT’s solution throughout its nationwide network to support all of its IP services.
The XACCT N2B platform provides a real-time link between TELUS’ network, which includes equipment from multiple vendors such as Cisco Systems and Nortel Networks, and its back-office Business/Operational Support System (BSS/OSS) applications. The information produced by XACCT’s software platform enables TELUS to understand how customers use its VoIP and POS services and then translate this understanding into better service and increased revenue and profit. TELUS also plans on using XACCT’s solution to implement automated usage collection for its Web hosting and Web domain services. XACCT’s N2B platform allows TELUS to seamlessly integrate its existing multi-vendor infrastructure, both the physical network as well as the back-office OSS/BSS sides of their operation, comprising of applications from eight different vendors.
N2B Platform Enables New Services and Saves Time and Money
TELUS was looking for a VoIP business solution to collect data from multiple network devices. The solution needed to be both scalable and flexible enough to analyze the individual use of the VoIP service by multiple customers. By installing the XACCT N2B platform, TELUS eliminated the need to build individual scripts, links, and programs between each network device and the associated OSS/BSS applications saving considerable time and money.

XACCT’s N2B platform has also enabled TELUS to offer a new POS service. One of the first customers is a gasoline company that uses touch pads at its gas stations for debit/credit authorization of customer purchases. TELUS is the link for capturing revenue between the gas stations and hosts at the debit/credit companies, charging a fee for each transaction. The N2B platform collects information about the transactions and forwards it to TELUS’ BSS/OSS to allow revenue to be captured quickly and completely. TELUS plans to add more applications, such as ATM machines, to its POS service in the future.
