TENDERTRUST DELIVERS FIRST E-TENDER FOR CENTRAL GOVERNMENT
24 July 2001, E-commerce solutions provider TrustMarque International is pleased to announce the successful completion of the first government supply tender processed via OGC TenderTrust as part of the Office Of Government Commerce's (OGC) e-tendering pilot.
TenderTrust(r) known as OGC TenderTrust for this pilot, is the world's first smartcard Internet based, secure electronic tendering system. OGCTenderTrust uses the latest in PKI security & encryption techniques, and state of the art digital certificates, held on smartcards provided and guaranteed by The Royal Bank of Scotland. The system enables purchasers and suppliers to easily manage the entire tendering process, from the creation of the Invitation to Tender (ITT) and its publication, through to receipt of Tenders from Suppliers, their analysis and award. OGC TenderTrust has been specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of both public and private sector tendering.

Peter Gershon, OGC Chief Executive, envisaged that over a four year period OGC TenderTrust should produce savings in the region of £13m for the taxpayer and reduce suppliers' tendering costs by £37m.
Speaking at Public Sector Expo 2001 in April, where The Royal Bank of Scotland was awarded the pilot contract with TrustMarque International as the technology provider, he said: "This project gives the UK Government the opportunity to be at the very forefront of the development of Electronic Tendering. For the first time, an Electronic Tendering System will be available to civil central government, delivering increased benefits to all parties. It will also support the drive towards modernised Government and make a real difference to suppliers, as the old fragmented government approach gives way to a unified system."
OGC TenderTrust is intended to develop the UK into a world leader in e-commerce systems and processes and set the standard for other countries to follow.
