Dimension Data Holdings plc (LSE:DDT), a leading technology company providing network and multi-channel solutions to global corporations, has forged a global agreement with Orchestream Holding plc, (LSE:OCH, Nasdaq:OCHS) a leading provider of service activation and performance management software to global telecommunications network operators.

Under the terms of the global system integrator agreement, Dimension Data will integrate Orchestream products within its Global Services Operating Architecture (GSOA) and its integrated Business and Operations Support Systems (iBOSS). These services will be available immediately with the two companies already actively engaged in identifying joint opportunities.

New and traditional telecommunications companies (telcos) are under enormous pressure to meet the combined challenges of telecommunications deregulation, commoditisation of basic bandwidth offerings, the growing adoption of e-commerce and the emergence of new technologies which make it easier for new competitors to enter the telco market.

Orchestream says the agreement with Dimension Data reinforces its position at the forefront of delivering the Next-Generation IP services telcos require to maintain an edge in an increasingly competitive industry.

“The combination of Orchestream and a global network services and i-Commerce solutions provider like Dimension Data, ensures that our customers will have immediate access to the technologies and the skills necessary to activate new services more rapidly and efficiently,'' says Andrew Charalambous, Senior Vice President Global Sales at Orchestream.

“Through Dimension Data's extensive global skills base, Orchestream is able to rapidly offer IP service activation to telecoms providers deploying advanced IP-based networks and services.

“Dimension Data is uniquely qualified to support Orchestream’s customers world-wide through its global presence in more than 30 countries, its Global Services Operating Architecture (GSOA) and its integrated Business and Operations Support Systems (iBOSS),” he adds.

Orchestream also partnered with Dimension Data in a TeleManagement Forum Catalyst multi-supplier Plug & Play IP-VPN (Virtual Private Network) project, which was demonstrated alongside other Catalyst projects at the TeleManagement World in Nice, France in May 2001.

Orchestream also partnered with Dimension Data in a TeleManagement Forum Catalyst multi-supplier, Plug & Play IP-VPN (Virtual Private Network) project which was demonstrated alongside other Catalyst projects at the TeleManagement World in Nice, France in May 2001.

According to Rob Lopez, Chief Technology Officer Dimension Data EMEA, iBOSS is based on a highly flexible and adaptable architecture, which includes world-leading software applications, to help service providers finely hone their competitive advantage.

Drawing on its experience as pioneer and leader of the TM Forum Plug-and-Play Catalyst project, Dimension Data enhanced iBOSS by basing it on a plug-and-play architecture. As a result, iBOSS lowers the integration barriers of time and cost and can be used to implement new, customer-focused services faster.

“This dovetails with Orchestream’s offering which sits at the core of the IP Operations Support System (OSS) and integrates fully with the billing, fault management and performance measurement capacity of iBossiBOSS.

“Together, Dimension Data and Orchestream will be positioned to deliver a full suite of innovative IP services to communications service providers,” he concludes.
