August 6th, 2001 – Wonderware Corporation, a unit of the Invensys Software Systems (ISS) group of British-based Invensys, plc, has announced that the InBatch™ batch management module in its FactorySuiteÒ 2000 automation system has expanded its capabilities to address the simplest to the most complex batch processing applications found in food processing, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods and specialty chemicals.
The new InBatch FlexFormula Edition is targeted at processes where the only variations between products are in the formula and where execution sequences never change or only require small changes that are handled in the control system. Additionally, InBatch FlexFormula Edition provides users with comprehensive information management services addressing batch history, equipment history and reporting. FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliant Security is provided as an option.
The InBatch flexible procedure offering has been renamed, InBatch Premier Edition and offers many new advanced batch and information management features including web-based runtime clients, web-based reporting clients and complete set of Active X client controls for easy integration with InTouch®. InBatch Premier Edition also is 100% compliant with the FDA 21 CFR Part 11 regulation on Electronic Records and Signatures.
“The opportunity for InBatch FlexFormula is significant. This segment of the market has lacked solutions that address both formula management and the information requirements that most manufactures need today. InBatch FlexFormula and its companion InTouch® human-machine interface (HMI) software are the ideal tools for application that need more than just a formula downloader. InBatch FlexFormula Edition is a complete batch management system. Now users can select the appropriate InBatch Edition, Premier or FlexFormula, to match the ‘personality’ of their batch production operations,” explained Larry LeBlanc, Wonderware director of product marketing for FactorySuite Advanced Applications. “Understanding the requirements of a batch automation project means understanding the personality of the batch plant and then selecting the appropriate solution. There are 4 fundamental personality traits in a batch plant. They are: Number of Products, Product Procedure Changes, Concurrency and History. Understanding which are the dominant traits will lead you to the right solution,” LeBlanc noted. With the introduction of InBatch FlexFormula, Wonderware now offers users 3 batch solutions to choose from: InTouch® with Recipe Manager, InBatch FlexFormula and InBatch Premier. InTouch® with its Recipe Manager feature is appropriate for the applications that need simple formula management and have fixed procedures in the control system and minimal or no history requirements.
“The InBatch FlexFormula Edition is the appropriate solution when batch history and reporting, as well as good formula authoring environment are needed.” LeBlanc noted. “This edition also, like the Premier Edition, has a complete set of Active X controls for easy integration with the operator interface, i.e. InTouch®.”
When producers need the most capable batch management system on the market today, then the InBatch Premier Edition is appropriate. It can handle the highest level of batch processing complexity without requiring expensive custom solutions that are time-consuming to implement and maintain. “The heart of the Premier Edition solution is its batch engine, which is responsible for execution of the product recipe, equipment management and capture of a complete batch history.” LeBlanc said.
The new InBatch FlexFormula and Premier Editions will be available in Q4 of 2001.
