Microtronica Takes on ELSA Professional Graphics Range - Resellers could clean up as 3Dlabs comes under fire Tuesday 14 August 2001 PDF Print THEALE, 14 August 2001- Specialist distributor Microtronica has agreed with graphics and networking vendor ELSA to handle the company's range of professional graphics boards as ELSA stakes its claim to UK market leadership in this sector. Microtronica won the professional graphics business after its success with ELSA consumer graphics boards and modems, which it began selling in June 2001. The deal comes at a time when ELSA has introduced a range of new boards for the CAD and digital content creation (DCC) markets which, it claims, beat rival 3Dlabs on price/performance. Microtronica's supplier marketing manager Robin Varley said, "Microtronica has a proven track record selling the full range of mass market and professional graphics cards. The ELSA GLoria III, Synergy 2000 and GLoria DCC give us a wide range of options to offer specialist resellers, OEMs and systems integrators." ELSA UK marketing manager Peter Griffin added, "ELSA has extremely competitive products in terms of price/performance against 3D Labs and ELSA will be helping channel partners take advantage of our commercial and technical lead in this key part of the market." Editors Note ELSA graphics boards for the professional market range from the entry level 32MB Quadro 2 EX based ELSA Synergy 2000 at £179.99 to the 64MB Quadro 2 based GLoria III at £799.99. For the mid-range the ELSA Synergy III based on the Quadro2 MXR chip retails for £299.99 and for dual screen applications ELSA offers the Synergy II in both AGP and PCI variants at £199.99. All ELSA professional boards offer proven stability, certification with all the major independent software vendors (ISVs) and full Open GL support. The ELSA software advantage is a range of special driver software for the common CAD and DCC applications, which can enhance both performance and stability. In August 2001 ELSA announced the ELSA GLoria DCC, which at £799.99 is a special board that has been optimised for digital content creation software such as 3D Studio Max. (Prices are VAT inclusive.)
