Bristol, 15th August 2001: E-resource management specialists, Essential Computing Ltd, today revealed the results of exhaustive performance testing of the Microsoft Exchange email archive solution, Exchange Archive Solution™ (EAS™).

Authored by Canadian group Educom TS Inc, and distributed throughout Europe by Essential, EAS is one of a growing number of solutions designed to tackle mailbox overload and legal retention issues through automated, policy-driven email archiving.

In tests carried out at the Compaq Computer Corporation test facility in Reading last week, EAS achieved a sustained archive rate of over 100,000 messages per hour on a ProLiant 8-way ‘Thunder’ Server and 68,400 messages an hour on a Compaq ProLiant 2-way server. These figures are believed to be between five and ten times faster than its nearest competitors.

Tests also yielded a ‘scanning’ rate of over 1.8 million items an hour. The scanning rate is the speed with which EAS can identify the emails that need to be archived given the organisations’ archive policies.

According to Barney Haye, Business Development Director at Essential Computing, customer sites are seeing even better results than this, with one organisation achieving a maximum archive rate of 29 messages plus attachments per second and an Exchange Store scanning rate of over 1300 items per second.

“These test results backed by actual customer figures give prospective customers the confidence that there is an archive solution for Microsoft Exchange that can really scale. Larger organisations will have a few million items that must be scanned regularly to see if they are ready to archive. They also have a limited time window in which to perform archiving. This is where good performance really pays dividends”, commented Haye.
