20 August 2001: MGI, a leading global provider of visual media software and infrastructure solutions, today announced that its market-leading digital photo, video and DVD applications have been selected by the Dixons Group to be included with every PC in the company’s own-brand Advent range, commencing August 2001.

Under the agreement, the programs to be included are special editions of the MGI’s award-winning PhotoSuite 4, VideoWave 4 and SoftDVD Max 6. No other details of the contract were disclosed.

Stephen Mold, MGI’s European managing director, said, “The inclusion of MGI’s applications with the Advent range provides customers with a complete creativity and entertainment centre on their PC – with programs for fixing and enhancing holiday photos and fine-tuning their video footage, plus DVD movie-playing with Dolby surround-sound.”

Neil Old, marketing director PC hardware, Dixons Group, said, “We’re impressed with the quality of MGI’s software. With digital imaging and entertainment becoming increasingly popular, we’re sure that our customers will appreciate the new feature-rich applications that will be loaded onto our popular Advent range.”

About MGI PhotoSuite 4

The latest version of MGI’s award-winning photo and web software, PhotoSuite 4 provides everything a user needs to be creative with their photos and share them with others. As well as a huge range of easy-to-use photo editing and repairing tools, this market-leading package includes some amazing features such as advanced photo stitching and interactive panoramas, PhotoTapestry, animated GIFs, step-by-step guides for creating and publishing image-rich web sites, transparency and cut-out control, plus support for Photoshop effects plug-ins. With its advanced photo enhancement features, a wealth of templates and content, project-led approach and user-friendly interface, PhotoSuite 4 is still the most comprehensive, yet easy-to-use photo software in its category.

About MGI VideoWave 4

MGI VideoWave was one of the first video publishing software products to fundamentally change how video is edited on a PC. Its revolutionary StoryLine allows users to quickly and easily ‘tell a story’ with video. VideoWave 4 includes the ability to capture video from multiple sources, and produces video in many formats including native DV and MPEG-2 for DVD quality output. It also provides a host of powerful editing features, presented by a slick and easy-to-navigate interface. Within minutes, the user can get to work on editing, mixing, adding special effects, and inserting titles and audio to their movie. The software also offers advanced functionality such as automatic scene detection, smooth fast and slow-motion video, a dedicated web publishing function with support for RealNetworks and Windows Media streaming formats.

About MGI SoftDVD MAX 6

MGI SoftDVD MAX delivers high quality, smooth DVD playback using MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 decoding on a desktop PC, laptop or TV. With a user interface that blends functionality with intuitive ease-of-use, its powerful features include audio language and parental controls, and a special MGI Navigator which allows the user to zoom and pan around a movie and review their favourite clips in slow motion. In addition, users can bookmark their DVDs to return to the best parts in the film, or use the repeat or random playback features when playing audio CDs or songs from a customised MP3 music play-list.

SoftDVD MAX includes Dolby Headphone technology, which emulates 5.1-channel surround-sound through a standard pair of headphones, and MGI’s exclusive AutoSense™ feature for quick and simple installation. Designed for easy upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP, a free downloadable update will be made available for MGI SoftDVD MAX 6 users who wish to adopt the new operating system later this year.
