Leading geographic information magazine, GEOEurope sponsors Consultancy and Solutions Centre at GIS 2001 - the UK's leading spatial business intelligence exhibition and conference (1).

Designed to add value and make GIS 2001 an informed, motivating and worthwhile experience, visitors will be able to make use of the free educational features and information zones on the show floor (18-20 September 2001, Earls Court 2, London). Two of these features, namely the Consultancy Centre and the Solutions Centre, have been sponsored by GEOEurope Magazine - The geographic technology magazine for the British Isles, mainland Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The Consultancy Centre (Stand D36) will offer visitors the opportunity to obtain free and impartial advice from consultants who have experience across a multitude of GI Industry areas. Advisors will be on hand, to talk through projects and help visitors avoid costly mistakes.

The Solutions Centre (Stand C1) organised in association with Kingston University and also sponsored by GEOEurope will provide an independent, friendly and informative facility for delegates to get hands-on experience of GIS in both formal workshops and informal 'drop-in' sessions. The workshops are based on a step-by-step approach to practical GIS applications and employ industry-standard software that is free of any vendor-led sales agenda.

The Solutions Centre's workshop programme will run throughout the three days, with tutors and topics including: Dr Munir Morad, Kingston University, (how to set up a real-time, Internet-based GIS suitable for a location-based service or a geographical messaging service); Dr Richard Armitage, Kingston University, (how to use network analysis to locate reported faults on a service network suitable for a call-centre type application); and Mr Ian Oldfield, Metropolitan Police Service, (how to use GIS to locate and map crime incident hot spots using methods applicable to other emergency services and local authorities).

GEOEurope's latest issue (September) plus advance copies of the October issue - hot off the press - will be distributed free from the Centres and the GEOEurope showstand (E17).

Other features at GIS 2001 will include:

- The AGI Conference - with high level plenaries, workshops and case studies.

- 'First Steps' seminar sessions in association with Ordnance Survey on how to get started with GIS.

- The LBS Pavilion supported by the WAP Group.

- Space & Remote Sensing Zone in association with BNSC.
