German based Utimaco Safeware teams up with Dutch based Securalink to enable the first solution for e-commerce to effectively combine speed with security
Utimaco Safeware, provider of pan-European professional security systems, and Securealink BV, Dutch leader in chip-based encryption technology, today announced that they have formalised their joint efforts in a contractual agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, Utimaco Safeware will employ Securealink's high-performance encryption chips in its accelerator cards for improved Internet security. Through this supplier framework agreement with Securealink, Utimaco Safeware is confident that it can provide a reliable service in the rapidly growing market for crypto-accelerators. In turn, Utimaco Safeware is offering the cryptographic IC (Integrated Circuit) supplier extensive support for developing its product portfolio in the future.
The increasing demand for encryption hardware for fast and secure Internet transactions is being triggered by constant growth in e-commerce. According to Norbert Pohlmann, chief marketing officer and member of the board of Utimaco Safeware, rapidity and security are the fundamental factors in successfully using the Internet for e-business, e-commerce and e-government. "By working together with Securealink we will be able to offer the market high-performance Internet security solutions at an attractive price. "
"Securealink's technology combines high performance with a high-level of security. This combination is critical to achieve confidence in the ability to offer secure Internet transactions today and in the future", said Henk Pruim, president at Securealink. "We are extremely pleased to enter this partnership with Utimaco Safeware".
Crypto-accelerator cards are specialised hardware components that perform specific security functions, such as VPN (Virtual Private Network), SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and digital signature activation. With the capacity to carry out the associated encryption and decryption tasks extremely fast, these accelerator cards enable many organisations, such as dealers, banks and insurance companies, to provide their services on the Internet in a secure and confidential way, whilst benefiting from fast data transfer and response times.
Additionally, for the first time accelerator cards can now be used to check digital signatures on a network node without causing a drop in network speed. They also provide sensitive information on the server (e.g. private keys) with noticeably higher levels of protection against attacks from the Internet.
Crypto-accelerator cards also release system resources to carry out further processing of transaction data, as the cards perform the extremely CPU-intensive cryptographic processes, instead of the server systems. This increases the performance of the Internet server even more, so a much higher number of customers can be served in a particular period of time, at a fraction of the cost of using an extra server.
Utimaco Safeware is a technological leader in the security market of the future, crypto-accelerator cards. Its customers already include big banks, lottery operators and suppliers of payment terminals. According to estimates from Frost & Sullivan, the pan-European Internet communications security market will grow from US dollars 832 million to US dollars 3.1 billion in the next three years.
By integrating Securealink's encryption chips within its products, Utimaco Safeware will have a highly attractive product portfolio for this market, which is ideal for business via indirect sales channels.
