Low cost, ease-of-use propel IMail Server to the head of the pack with 20 million seats
August 28, 2001 - Ipswitch, Inc., a leading supplier of Internet productivity software, today announced that IMail Server, its Internet messaging server for Windows NT/2000, has the most new and total users of any other e-mail server for enterprises, according to IT industry analyst group IDC. IDC reported on enterprise and service provider market categories for stand-alone e-mail server sales. IMail Server was determined to be the leader in the stand-alone market for enterprises with 20 million users worldwide, or 26 percent of the market.
“The IDC study validates what we have known for quite some time – that IMail Server is extremely popular with companies of all sizes, especially small and medium businesses,” said Ipswitch President Roger C. Greene. “There are a total of 38 million IMail Server users with the additional 18 million seats through ISPs. IMail Server is an easy-to-use, affordable messaging solution for companies that want essential e-mail features plus added functionality such as Web Messaging, Web Calendaring and anti-spam support.”
The IDC study examined 2000 revenue numbers and total user numbers for products in the overall messaging market. It defines the stand-alone e-mail category as electronic messaging applications used by businesses and accessed via premises-based networking or dial-up data communications technology. It excludes service providers and groupware products such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes.
“Relatively low cost and reliable mail functionality with streamlined administration has been a winning combination for Ipswitch in the small and midsize enterprise markets. The fact that the product can be purchased for a fixed price with unlimited users is also very attractive to companies and service providers,” said Robert Mahowald, analyst with IDC.
IMail Server offers Web Messaging, remote administration, Web Calendaring, anti-spamming support and SSL authentication policies to create a more secure method of sending and receiving e-mail. Enhanced Web Messaging allows administrators the ability to view real-time server activity, cutting down on spam and enhancing capacity planning. Ipswitch released IMail Server 7.0 in June of this year.
